Saw terrible injury at park today
It was a mom. A mom, chasing her 5.5 year old for a game of tag. It was at a great accessible playground with dynamic sloping ground—that happens to slope in a weird way right before a walkway between the slides, at just the wrong height for an adult. I bumped my head in the SAME SPOT not 15 minutes earlier, and started to tell this to the mom who was injured.
I didn’t have the sterile gauze supply that I normally do because my kid is always getting hurt—so another mom offered a diaper. It was a very serious gash along eyebrow.
She didn’t want to call for ambulance because of financial reasons (FUCK THIS DUMBASS COUNTRY) so I offered to drive her to urgent care, but fucked up by complicating the situation because of car seat etc. After getting a better look at the depth of the gash I told her she needed emergency room. It looked beyond the scope of chain business urgent care. I hope I was right. She was able to call her mom to meet at ED, and after EMTs showed up I tried to distract, reassure, watch and give snacks to her kid who was same age as my kid.
I can’t stop thinking about how such a random accident will affect her. I wish I got their info just to check in or DoorDash them some food or try to help… planning to write and call complaints to Parks department tomorrow. She was doing everything right, momming so hard. Playing tag with her kid. This shit is relentless.
