I keep seeing this come up whenever the non-veg debate starts. Someone will inevitably say, “Na na, amra pandel er bhitore toh non-veg khai na. Non-veg carry o kori na.”

Why do we feel the need to say this? Karon, the reality is a little different.

A lot of us go pandel hopping, stop at restaurants, eat biryani, mutton, fish, whatever we want, and then when there is food left, we get it packed and carry it with us while continuing to visit pandels. Eta toh khub normal. What else are we supposed to do? Restaurant e kheye food baki thakle phele debo?

Obviously not. We take the parcel with us. We go to the next pandel. Then the next one. Eventually we go home and eat it.

A lot of people actually do this. So why are we pretending that we don't?

And this is not even about arguing that people should carry non-veg into pandels. It's about acknowledging that people already do, and there is nothing inherently shameful about it.

What bothers me is the almost apologetic tone of “We do eat non-veg, but outside the pandel. We don't carry it inside.”

As if we need to immediately clarify this to prove that we are still “respectable” Bengalis or that our Pujo is somehow sufficiently religious.

Why?

We don't need to hide the fact that we eat non-veg during Pujo. We don't need to pretend that the food we are carrying around came from somewhere other than the restaurant we just ate at.

Pujo for a lot of us is pandel hopping, adda, friends, family, restaurants, food and everything in between. Khawa-dawa is literally a part of the Pujo experience.

So yes, amra non-veg khai. Amra restaurant-e khai. Food baki thakle parcel kori. And sometimes that parcel comes with us while we're pandel hopping.

And that's perfectly normal.

We don't need to keep saying “na na, pandel-er bhitore khai na” just to satisfy some outsider's idea of what Bengali Pujo is supposed to look like.

Let people celebrate Pujo the way they actually celebrate it.

পেন্ডিং রেজাল্ট, স্বচ্ছ নিয়োগ এবং নতুন বিজ্ঞপ্তির দাবিতে PSC অফিসের সামনে চাকরিপ্রার্থী ও শিক্ষকদের রক্তঘাম ঝরানো গণতান্ত্রিক জমায়েতকে বলপ্রয়োগ করে ছত্রভঙ্গ করার চেষ্টা করে । পরিস্থিতি উত্তপ্ত করে তুলে বেশ কয়েকজন আন্দোলনকারী শিক্ষক ও ছাত্র-ছাত্রীকে পুলিশ আটক করে, (পরে তাদের ছেড়ে দেয়া হয় )

বছরের পর বছর কঠোর পরিশ্রমের পর নিজের অধিকারটুকু চাওয়া কোনো অপরাধ নয়। আন্দোলন দমন করে চাকরিপ্রার্থীদের কণ্ঠরোধ করার এই চেষ্টা অত্যন্ত দুর্ভাগ্যজনক ও হতাশাজনক।

তাদের দাবী ছিলো

পাবলিক সার্ভিস কমিশন সংস্কার ও দ্রুত নিয়োগের দাবিতে প্রতিবাদ আন্দোলন

প্রধান দাবি সমূহ:

নিয়মিত ও স্বচ্ছ নিয়োগ: পিএসসির সমস্ত পেন্ডিং পরীক্ষার রেজাল্ট দ্রুত প্রকাশ করতে হবে এবং স্বচ্ছতার সাথে নিয়মিত নিয়োগ প্রক্রিয়া সম্পন্ন করতে হবে।

ডব্লিউবিসিএস ও অন্যান্য পরীক্ষার নোটিফিকেশন: ডব্লিউবিসিএস (WBCS), মিসলেনিয়াস, ক্লাকশিপসহ সমস্ত স্থগিত থাকা ও নতুন শূন্যপদের বিজ্ঞপ্তি অবিলম্বে জারি করতে হবে।

নির্দিষ্ট ক্যালেন্ডার প্রকাশ: প্রতি বছর পরীক্ষার নোটিফিকেশন, রেজাল্ট ও ইন্টারভিউয়ের সময়সীমা নির্ধারণ করে কমিশনকে অ্যানুয়াল এগজাম ক্যালেন্ডার প্রকাশ করতে হবে।

দুর্নীতিমুক্ত নিয়োগ প্রক্রিয়া: উত্তরপত্রের পুনর্মূল্যায়ন, অ্যান্সার কি (Answer Key) প্রকাশ এবং নম্বর স্বচ্ছতার সাথে সর্বসাধারণের জন্য ওয়েবসাইটে দিতে হবে।

বয়সসীমা বৃদ্ধি ও ছাড়: বিগত বছরগুলিতে নিয়মিত পরীক্ষা না হওয়ায় বঞ্চিত চাকরিপ্রার্থীদের জন্য বয়সের ঊর্ধ্বসীমায় উপযুক্ত ছাড় দিতে হবে।
