FIXED Landlord is coming by tomorrow to fix my floors. Any advice of what I should be on the lookout for?

So about 2 weeks ago I noticed a slight bump in the corner of my apartment by my AC unit. I knew it wasn’t great and texted my landlord’s handyman about it. He came out the next day and said it was likely water damage from the AC unit. He unscrewed the AC and did something. Said he stopped the leak. He came by a few hours later with a giant de-humidifier. I put it right next to the bump. I’ve had to empty it about 2-4 times a day as it fills with water pretty quickly. A week later I noticed a second bump this time by my desk/near the kitchen door. Texted my handy guy again and he came back with another guy and they assessed the damage. Said they would come by day after Labor Day to repair my floor. It has grown much bigger and is like a speed bump in my studio. I’m glad they’re going to give it a go, but I’m worried they’re going to give a landlord special and cover the issue and not really fix it. So I wanted to get some insight as to how bad this is. When they come by tomorrow, do you guys have anything I should look out for? What would you do to fix this? I’m planning on taking pictures of what it looks like in case that’s relevant later, but I know jack shit about this kind of work. I’m also planning on moving my furniture tonight and covering up my belongings with sheets and towels in case it makes a mess.

Here is some info if it’s any help: I live on top floor of my apartment in a pretty old building. The floor is real wood and is dry. Nothing was leaking above and I’ve never seen anything like this before. When the handy guy came by the 2nd time, he lifted a piece of wood and checked what it looked like underneath. I don’t see any mold and it feels dry.

1st picture is what the 2nd bump looks like as of today. 2nd picture is when I noticed the 2nd bump. 3rd picture is when I noticed the 1st bump start to lift off the floor. 4 picture if after the landlord came to check out the damage underneath the 1st bump. 5th picture is when I first noticed the 1st bump.

Edit: since folks are asking, I’ll answer some questions:

- The AC unit came with the apartment and is not mine. The AC unit was found to be leaking when they 1st came by and the handy man stopped the leak. But the bubbling has not stopped so not sure if that was the main culprit.

- I have a dehumidifier connected to the window. I drain it once a week but it’s usually only a few drops since I have it connected to the window to let out the moisture. They gave me a 2nd dehumidifier after repairing the leak on the initial visit.

- I do not mop the floors. Might be gross, but never have. I just sweep.

- I’m on the top floor so this isn’t a basement nor has there been flooding. Or an earthquake.

- I live in Washington DC. It’s humid here.

- I have not felt any dampness on top of the floors nor have I seen any visible leaks anywhere. It’s near my kitchen, but not the bathroom.

- I alerted my neighbor downstairs about what’s going on. When I gave him the heads up, I peeped his ceiling and saw no sign of water damage.

TLDR: that’s allot damage

Help with shower window

Post image
Upvotes

I need to figure out something to put over this window for privacy and to stop the wood from getting so wet and molding. It already is molding and the paint is off in the bottom right corner and if you don’t angle the water away from the window it gets totally drenched.
It’s also right outside of the fire escape so I need 100 percent privacy at night.

I added maybe some ideas but…
I’m trying to find a not ugly solution as well.. any and all tips greatly appreciated

Hello!
I’ve been given this lamp that still works but one of the « bubbles » lampshade is broken. I tried popping it back in, doesn’t work. I’ve unscrewed the little screws from the base of the lampshade to try pushing/twisting it into the little rod but it didn’t seem to work either. Is there any way to fix it ?

open Samunsg fridge defrost not working. looks like termal fuse is the culprit. help

Upvotes

My SRF583DLS gets heavily frosted over the evaporator after a few hours, so I suspect a defrost-system issue.

I tested the components with the fridge unplugged: Defrost heater (DA97-19501A): ~420 Ω Evaporator thermistor: ~4.2 kΩ Thermal fuse near the evaporator: resistance starts low and keeps increasing into the MΩ range. The fuse was completely disconnected from the fridge when tested.

I also ran forced defrost, but the heater did not warm up.

Could a faulty/open thermal fuse cause the heater not to warm during forced defrost? Does the fuse behaviour I'm seeing indicate it's faulty, or should I test something else?

This part of the watch came off this morning, now it won't go back into place and so the watch won't stay on. I tried sliding it back into place but it won't go. I added a photo from google because my phone has decided to take photos like I'm using a potato today. Advice on how to get this back into place would be great.

portable AC started to suddenly vibrate and whine like crazy.

This spinning fan is the source (see video). This is an AIRO model #AC14MWS Anyone know how to fix it? The fan is clearly unbalanced. Maybe the bearing is going bad? 5 years old. The AC still blows cold air-- I am just afraid it's going to blow up/tear itself apart with all this vibrating https://youtube.com/shorts/_rKTHYNNPYg?feature=share

Best way to repair rip in the zipper of a suitcase

Post image
Upvotes

I have a hardshell suitcase with a rip in the fabric part where the zipper attaches. This leaves a hole in the bottom so stuff can fall out. Really don't want to get a new one since this one isn't that old :(

Whats the best way to fix this? Fabric glue (what brand is best?) Or heavy duty thread (I'm not too familiar with sewing but I will try)?

Hi everyone,

I hope one of you can give me a hand. My grandma recently gifted me a lovely gold-inlaid decorative plate, and it came with a small plastic display stand.

Sadly, the display stand broke in transit and is now in two parts. The plate is fine.

I’d love to glue the stand back together to display the plate, but I can’t figure out where the stand broke. I don’t have a picture of the stand pre-break.

If any of you can suggest how I should glue the stand back together, I’d really appreciate it!

Thank you!

Hi, help me decide if I can get this wrapped with electical tape or heat-shrink? I so no crumbs of this wire ( gray and brown ). Thinking i might have cleaned it before and this has been exposed while i am using it. I am so shocked to find out that this was gnawed already while i saw the mouse creeping back to where it entered. Voilà! An exposed and dangerous wire. I taped it with e-tape and 3 techinicians I asked online says i can now use this but i am so afraid since this is an apartment im living. I do not want to risk it.

I messed up my flooring badly in a rental (over 10 years)

I'm moving and I need some help on how to sort of hide it for inspection, it doesn't need to be perfect, the landlords have let mold grow in the shower walls so I dont care about their opinion but I don't want to have to pay for a whole new floor. Any advice?

How do I put this tiny battery in? And is it missing any parts?

I have a tiny light up Halloween pumpkin but I don't know how to get it to work. Obviously I insert the tiny disc battery in the silver cap and then screw that into the pumpkin. There is a slot on the side of the screw in cap...should that have a tiny toggle switch that slides for on/off? It didn't come with one. Also, when I drop the disk battery into the cap should the silver blank side of battery be face up in bottom or yellow square up in bottom? And finally, am I missing a spring or a metal piece that keeps the battery in position and for making contact?? Thanks in advance. See pics.

open Noise from apartment wall.

Upvotes

I have been living in this apartment for around a year and I left for the summer for a few months. I came back and 1 week later this sound started from my bedroom wall which is insanely annoying and doesn't stop. It sounds like a metal ball rolling on the floor. Anyone knows what it is? It's not my neighbours above air compressor on the balcony and I tried turning the water pressure off to see if that was the issue but to no avail. It doesnt stop. I havent slept for 3 days

open Is a heavy duty extension cord really required for a frig?

Upvotes

Something is wrong with the kitchen fuse and idk how long it will take the ll to fix this time (when flipping it off/on it apparently came on for a second then back out) and the housemate with the long extension cord moved so I've had to order one. Just want to make sure a heavy duty is truly necessary since a 50 foot one is $$$.

Rather spend than risk fire. Thanks.

My husband inherited this Birks barometer from an uncle. Unfortunately the glass facing didn't survive one of our many moves. I'm at a loss as to where to take this for repair. I would love to have it fixed and give to my husband as a Christmas gift.

I'm open to any suggestions.
