Since the sub is being overwhelmed by debate over the $5 "microtransaction" and it's making the sub feel like we're Dark Souls 2 a decade ago, with the faux outrage around the preorder items, we are opening this topic to consolidate discussion around the issue.
Please use this topic to discuss the pros and cons of the approach and your thoughts. But do so RESPECTFULLY and CONSTRUCTIVELY. If you need to call other people or the developers names, you don't have a good argument and your post will be removed.
We will remove all other topics about this to keep the subreddit flowing with other discussions
IF YOU WANT TO VOTE: I will post two comments on this topic, "Yay" and "Nay" - upvote the one you agree with and we'll see who wins long term.

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28, 2026
We aren't entirely sure if anything else will be included but feel free to speculate and dream!

in light of the recent patch note drama
EDIT: I would post the definition of microtransaction here, but I can't add pictures in an edit, so I'll put the commonly understood definition here:
Loot boxes, Virtual Currency, Cosmetics, Timesavers, Energy Boosts, and/or Powerful Exclusive Gear, designed to capitalize on impulse buyers. Typically found in live service games with in-game shops, especially gacha games. Honorable mention is Dead Space 3 (f*** you EA).
Is any of the gear added considered ultra powerful? or is it just cool shit as a fun little bonus package you can optionally buy, with no impact on your main game whatsoever?

She just brought down Godrick…
Some recap
So she never played a souls game before and she is very scared most of the time, but she beat Margit at level 21 and then found the shortcut in stormveil castle on a 1/3 health.
She explored the Weeping peninsula and found the curches (I gave her a quest to find them because no need to struggle without estus upgrades for this long lol).
Explored some towers and dungeons
Found trap chest to the capital
Defeated Tree avatar after some attempts
We both learned of Gostoc STEALING RUNES because she noticed some were missing on retrieval, I had no idea so we got curious and looked it up.
Now she felt bad about the idea of killing him because he seemed so harmless and “it is probably less than a 1000 runes” she says.
So she hands ME the controller and says “you do it, I can’t look” and I kinda just look at her and go “Are you some kind of mob wife now, am I supposed to do a hit on this guy, you want him to sleep with the fishes?”
She just kinda look all innocently at me.
So I do it alright, I whack the guy and we see this dude stole 8000 RUNES,
Her jaw drops and all hesitation was blown away. “oh I take back what I said he deserved it”
At level 31 she made it to Godrick and challenged him, brought him to half health first couple of tries. And now after about 5 tries she did it. Oh boy…
I saved a clip of the fight and can maybe post later. (Edit: she had a +2 broadsword, flame sling, Nepheli and the jellyfish to help)
Just a small note since a few comments brought it last time: yes, we will adjust our work schedules around the puppy. We have talked about it and are 100% on making sure the puppy gets the time, attention and care it needs.
And yes, she wants to do this. She wants a puppy, I want to see her defeat gods, and this is the deal we came up with. I’m honestly intrigued by her hesitant but growing interest in Elden Ring and seeing where this takes her.
For anyone interested in how this this started here is the original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/s/q1VgQjFvU2
I didn’t realize just how strongly motivated she would be since she disliked the game at first.
dog ahead

Another new DLC loot change with the Tarnished edition, this spot right here, at the bottom of the waterfall, behind a bunch of stone columns, and guarded by a red-eye Lobster, there is a Somber 10 that used to be a Somber 6. I apologise that I don't have any direct screenshots, I didn't realise it was new until I double-checked, but I thought I'd share this discovery for convenience!
I hope the wiki can get properly updated with all this new info, but I'm pleased to see more max upgrade materials.

Fun moveset with so many different varied attacks, uses more than 5 weapons, one of the coolest looking boss fight arenas, great VA, and amazing animations. Easily up there with Messmer and Maliketh. I just wish his rematch at the Erdtree was buffed so he was more noteworthy the second time around

And why do they only drop a measly amount of runes, with how annoying and strong they are you'd think they would give you a massive reward, it's basically pointless to fight them in melee unless you low profile their 5000 hit combo

That was a good freaking fight, holy shit. I barely scraped through at the end, but the faithful zweihander was there for me when I needed it most. It was great in DS1 and it’s still great here!
It’s honestly kind of crazy going from DS1 on the Switch to this. Just the blood physics alone blew my mind. Then bears started tearing down trees and blasting through walls. This game is so good.
