Help What is this and what do I do?
So I talked to an old lady in a tower and then jumped in to a shiny spot in the lake. Now I'm just sitting with this thing and since he's not attacking me, I'm not attacking him either. Do I have to? Or is there any other way?

Nah, this is adorable, and I don't mean this in a mocking way. While we have new players coming in every day, it's the first time I see someone ask if they really have to kill Rom. I know it's uncommon to see a passive monster in these games, but the natural reaction to most people after seeing a big monster in what's clearly a big arena is to immediately start swinging. OP, after you are done with the game, watch a lore video essay (there are some good ones out there) so you'll understand better what/who Rom is and learn in depth why you have to kill her.

Yep, one of the first I watched, but recently I saw the one made by Sovereign of Dusk. It's really amazing, super in-depth, and I think he both touched and deepened a few points that Vaati did not.

I have a hard time knocking Master Willem when he's just kickin' back in his chair, high on shrooms, all chill and shit. Same with Rom, ain't hurtin' nobody. I think you've beaten the game.

Rom can be frustrating at first. Recommend killing the little spideys to start each phase. Final phase you have to watch Rom and learn her* moves.

It gets so tedious to kill them all and then die to aoe meteor hit boxes. If you’re damage is high enough you gotta go for the quick kill

I’ve watched so many people’s play throughs, it’s unbelievable how many just don’t figure out that the head is tough and simply unlocking the camera lets you kill the spiders easily.

It's a spider and the mini spiders have hard shells u have to attack them from the back soft side otherwise you'll be dead in no time. Try to kill all the spiders because just avoiding them isn't going to do anything, ittl just make the boss fight worse. U can skip the 2nd phase if u do enough damage the first time, and u can spawn a hunter for help

I've never understood why players will come to Reddit with these questions instead of looking up a guide. You don't have to wait for people to respond, you can just look up exactly what you looking at and what you are supposed to do. But to each their own, I suppose. When in doubt with a fromsoft game, just attack it. Works every time.

Yes, I managed to defeat her last night after an hour or two. It took some time to realise that I have to attack them from the sides, not upfront. Also the fight is quite tedious and not really interesting, basically just cleaning out the little spiders and attacking the chonker which doesn't really have a difficult moveset. But overall yeah, it took some time to get used to the fight, but since I was streaming to a few of my friends it wasn't that bad.

Just beat him a few minutes ago just treat him like the three witches go in and out and just stray side to side the spiders are pretty slow so their no issue, however I think his face takes less damage so I would just attack his body on the side for 2-3 hits and leave.

it can accurately sense your intent. I’d make sure you aren’t packing no ill will, trust. afterwards, slide under that lil low rider’s belly to quickly assess any injuries and his endowment. follow through with notes and diagrams but prioritize moving quickly to install high potency anti-arcane shoes on those tiny little hooves of his natural breaking, taming and friendship should persist over time if he permits. i’ll say, if you’re chill and have a good taste in music you’ll be fine most likely. anyways! enjoy riding on your cranky bug

Kill it so you can proceed. Head is the strong spot so don't go for it. It only teleports thrice so no rush to get as many hits as possible. That's what dooms you in this bossfight, impatience.

I hate Rom so much. I would just try and avoid the mini spiders as much as you can and attack the main body of Rom. Attacking the head doesn't do anything. She'll teleport miles away and you have to chase her and do the same. Such a bullshit boss.
