This is where you can share:

  • Stuff that isn't directly related to Barrie, like national news or general chit-chat
  • Questions about local businesses and services
  • Classified-style ads: buying and selling, help wanted, garage sales, etc
  • Fundraisers and donation drives
  • Plugs for your personal project or local business (within reason)

How to read this

Simcoe Muskoka’s inspection records classify infractions as critical or minor. Those are the health unit’s classifications, not ratings I’m assigning.

I’ve also kept Corrected During Inspection separate from Not in Compliance. Corrected During Inspection means the issue was addressed while the inspector was there. Not in Compliance means the requirement was still recorded as non-compliant when the inspection was completed.

This roundup includes Barrie premises classified as Restaurant or Food Take Out, not every type of food premises inspected by the health unit.

Inspection results reflect what inspectors observed during that particular visit. They are a snapshot in time, and records can change as new inspections and follow-ups happen, so check the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit inspection portal for the latest information.

Looking For Travel lodge Barrie may 2nd 2012

Upvotes

Does anyone have any information about the murders that took place there on may 2nd 2012.
I’m a paranormal investigator and plan to check out this specific room which I believe is 129.
I lived in this hotel for about 7-8 months when it was a homeless shelter as a child in 2014 when me and my family were homeless. So I already know this hotel has weird ass vibes. The pool room and basement floor is uncomfortable to say the least.
I’m not looking for your opinion on the paranormal. I’m just looking for useful information that may help my investigation. Thanks! 🙏

Question Freedom Mobile Stores Open?

Upvotes

Good morning

Anyone know if these will be open today? Forgot to open a prepaid yearly plan for my son before he goes to school tomorrow .Wife and I are about to go for our morning walk and are planning on stopping by the store (specifically the Essa Food Basics plaza location).

If not, then meh we'll just have to wait until tomorrow.

Thank you

Edit:

The store wasn't answering their phone but I called head office and they confirmed all stores are open

Another edit:

We got to the store and they're closed for Labour Day. Freaking head office lol... At least I had a good walk with the wife and capped it off with coffee and donuts

Recently returned to Barrie. Noticed that my usual restaurants are not as busy as they used to be. Weird given the population has increased. Talking about Applebee's and Baton Rouge where the service and food were good, but others too.

Hey,

I was curious if anyone knows a mechanic/shop that will press in bushings to a knuckle on a tesla model 3. Trying to avoid throwing out a knuckle when only one bushing went bad on me. If anyone knows of someone that would be great.

Looking For Art classes in Barrie

Upvotes

Hello, good people of Barrie! :)

I am a beginner-intermediate skill level artist who uses acrylics and oils. I want to learn and get better. Are there any weekend or evening courses in Barrie? I know there are many videos on YouTube and online classes, but I think there’s value in an in-person class.

Also, if you know of an art club type of thing, let me know. I’ve been sketching for years but only recently started painting and I really love it!

Rant Barrie–Innisfil: Where is our MPP, Andrea Khanjin, while GO service gets gutted?

Upvotes

It is absolutely frustrating to watch our community deal with major GO Transit service reductions while our elected representatives seem far more interested in what is happening in Toronto than in answering the people who elected them here.

GO Transit is making major changes to Barrie Line service starting September 8, including the removal of some weekday evening and weekend trips. This will continue to devastate the Barrie line, which has already continued to reduce services since COVID and enforcing RTO policies.

We are being asked to go to offices, go to events, spend into the economy, and yet we are expected to either teleport there or individually all own cars. At the same time, public transportation within the City of Barrie, and along the Barrie GO line, is abysmal. Imagine how much worse gridlock will look like with a reduction of public transportation services and bike lanes.

Meanwhile, constituents are asking a very simple question:

Where is Andrea Khanjin?

Our MPP represents Barrie–Innisfil, not Toronto.

There is nothing wrong with paying attention to provincial issues or advocating for the broader region. But representation has to start with the people in your riding. When residents are facing fewer trains, longer commutes and fewer transportation options, they deserve more than political messaging from Queen’s Park. They deserve their MPP to actually show up and advocate for them.

And when government announcements involve millions of dollars being spent on policies that many constituents believe are disconnected from evidence or are making life harder, we see plenty of political enthusiasm and applause.

So why can't we get that same level of energy when it comes to protecting essential GO service for Barrie and Innisfil?

This is exactly why accountability matters.

If Andrea Khanjin supports these service reductions, she should say so.

If she opposes them, she should tell constituents what she is actually doing to fight them.

And if she has already been advocating behind the scenes, then tell us what has been done and what the plan is.

Silence isn't advocacy. Repeatedly ignoring constituents isn't advocacy.

It’s time to bring back accountability.

Andrea Khanjin's constituency office can be contacted at:

📧 andrea.khanjin@pc.ola.org

📞 705-722-0575

And to the Barrie news media: please ask the questions constituents are asking.

Ask Andrea Khanjin what she is doing.

Ask the Mayor and Barrie City Council what they are doing.

Ask Innisfil's municipal leadership what they are doing.

Ask them whether they believe these GO service reductions are acceptable, and, if they don't, what concrete action they are taking to advocate for the people they represent.

We don't need another photo-op.

We don't need another announcement about what is happening in Toronto.

We need representatives who will stand up for Barrie and Innisfil when it matters.

The people who elected them deserve answers.

It's time to bring back accountability.

However, my mother has to move into a new place and unfortunately he can't come so my mom is staying at the old place and when she can't stay she says she is gonna have to pitch a tent, and I'm really worried. She's tried to rehome him, and unfortunately, they couldn't. Any advice will help, I don't want my mum on the streets here in barrie

Question Empty patient transfer vans blocking accessible areas.

Upvotes

AITA for thinking these PTVs should park elsewhere while waiting to transport patients? This is where I was told to pick up my mom (in a wheelchair) from surgery. I finally managed to get an accessible spot but man is that frustrating. Like couldn’t they park where the curbs are and then move into position? I get the need to be there but other people also need to use the area.
