the woman you see in the picture is Ispita, she was gang r’aped on the Karnaphuli 4 launch.
her father, pleaded emotionally, “Ami auto driver, amar meyer bichar ki pabo?” which is heartbreaking to hear.
she was a bright, hardworking student of zoology, 3rd year, Bhola Govt College.
a girl who once believed in change, who tried politics, who gave up on it when she saw the reality. She was someone’s daughter, the daughter of an auto driver who today stands shattered, asking the most heartbreaking question.
on that day, maybe she jumped to save herself. Maybe they threw her into the river. Either way, she died. And her body was found like she was no one, buried as beyowarish, without dignity, without justice.
her classmates are now saying what we all fear, this might not just have been a random crime. Maybe it was a targeted k’illing. Maybe it was to silence someone who dared to think differently, who dared to hope.
And here we are. Watching. Posting. Feeling angry for a while. And then forgetting, like we always do.
If this doesn’t break us, if this doesn’t make us demand justice louder than ever, nothing will.
Ispita deserved better.
Her father deserves better.
This country owes them that.
