India has always been liberal with ppl seeking assylum due to persecution in neighbouring countries. we don't want radical illegal immigration here. there are huge demographic changes in seven sisters and west bengal mainly and in all states of India. why do you think we mainting our borders is a bad thingd?
btw I would like to see what border killings we did. I've visited NE and many places don't even have a border, I'd like them to make a strict border
Are you talking about that 15 yr old illegal smuggler who was shot dead by Bsf officer Amiya Ghosh while she was climbing over the fence using a bamboo ladder along with her cattle smuggler buddies?
Don't tell me that you believe wikipedia. Even if you believe it, it clearly says they were in indian territory without valid documents. The only solution I see is the border should be completely fenced and people on Both sides are needed to be taught that if you cross the border illegally things won't end well for you.
The only solution I see is the border should be completely fenced and people on Both sides are needed to be taught that if you cross the border illegally things won't end well for you.
No. The border needs to be de-fenced and people on both sides need to teach their masters in Delhi that any attempt to create or further strengthen the border between both the countries will not end well for them.
There are things like international laws, human rights, and proportionate responses. How you disregard all of that and also left out the part where she was left hanging in the barbed wire for hours tells me all about you.
Also, smuggling is not a one way street. You think they don't have networks across the borders and sometimes Indian smugglers don't come into our borders? Unlike India, we don't kill people needlessly and then pretend cattle smugglers and 15 year old kids deserves to die because hey, actions have consequences. Check this and this. It doesn't make headlines because we don't disregard laws and human rights and kill people.
Don't believe me? If you have the tiniest bit of decency, you should go and fact-check the above statements. Perhaps you will come to your senses like this person.
No one shoots the unarmed. There are border issues even in the US. Illegal crossings are to be captured, and sent back. U don't shoot and call someone as a strategic friend.
That is true and I doubt India would intentionally shoot a child. But you are also missing the point. The number of Bangladeshis killed during 2000-2020 is over 1200 and the number of injured is over 1100 from the documentations of a human rights organization. This clearly shows a disregard towards human lives and international laws. Also check this.
Also imagine this. Suppose you accidentally killed a 15 year old in order to protect your borders. Wouldn't you feel bad and want to prevent such incidents from happening in the future? You can protect your borders and do better; they are not mutually exclusive. Do you see any initiative from India's end to address this issue that has been going on for years?
Can you tell me one initiative India took to minimize border killings? If you can't find such a thing, what do you think is the reason? Other countries are protecting their borders without killing indiscriminately and not violating international laws, why can't India do it? Heck, you ain't protecting your borders from the ISIS. Most of these are poor people who are cattle smugglers by your own definition.
Did she carry a board over her head stating that she is a 15 year old cattle smuggler who was attempting to break the law by illegally entering India using a ladder to climb over the border fence?
Are you saying bsf who's only job is to protect the borders , should have spared her because she was a 15 yr old illegal smuggler?
Actions have consequences.
Same way did your Nobel peace prize winner, war gamed the consequences which will follow when he invited China to expand their economic influence on Indian lands ? What will happen if someone sieges his only 2 ports.
Can the Gurdian of the Ocean with their petrol vessel dominant surface fleet defend their Ocean access?
There's just not one occurrence of border killings. There are literally thousands more like this. Even India's own internal reports declared most of these are straight forward killings without valid reasons. And in many cases the victims were inside the Bangladesh border, but still bsf shot and killed them. And rendians still wonder why every one of its neighbors hates them.
Amader desh e, innocent until proven guilty. If you suspect someone is smuggling, arrest them, produce them before a court of law, prove their crime get them convicted and sentenced and release them after their sentence. Border killings are completely unjustified.
India cannot fence the border. Bangladesh cannot stop it's people crossing illegally. If you know that BSF will shoot you, what is the reason that you still want to cross the border taking extreme danger. No army in the world, particularly deployed at border is trained to entertain human rights. Courts work for police not for the army. An intruder at the crossing may be an innocent child or a terrorist. A warning is issued and then they are shot down. If Bangladesh people are so infuriated by border crossing, why don't they ask people to not go near the border. The Indians don't have such an issue with the Pakistan border. But Bangladeshi want to cross illegally and then cry human rights.
BSF is a paramilitary organisation formed to safeguard borders.
They are deployed in borders of Pakistan and Bangladesh. While Pakistan border has issues of smuggling, killings of civilians at these borders is minimal because they know that borders are hot. In sporadic cases when some one crosses the borders or LOC, the person is returned after questioning.
We have persistent border issues with Bangladesh. Because there is rampant human trafficking and smuggling mostly from Bangladesh to India.
Smuggling profits persons from both sides, but human trafficking is one way, from Bangladesh to India and not the other way. Hence, it is India and its border force which has to be more aggressive to deter the defaulters. The onus should be in Bangladesh and its border police to stop the flow of humans to India.
We are already facing a huge influx of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in our country. We don't want more influx. To scream for human rights at killings is changing the narrative.
This is not a good reason to hate another country. Nobody is obligated to give you transit and transhipment. Good reasons to hate India are border killing or safekeeping Hasina.
Bangladesh should take retaliatory action. Cancel transit and transhipment.
I think Bangladesh should try to have a realistic geopolitical strategy and maintain friendly relationships with India to best utilize it's geostrategic position.
Which I think Dr Yunus is doing anyways,
I don't interpret his comments as negative towards India, in fact I see it as benefitting the Northeast and ultimately what trade relations with India are trying to build towards. This antagonism Indian and Bangladeshis have towards each other on the internet is meaningless, as our current leaders are trying to work with one another.
The main blow here is the trade with US. BD's most important trade customer. Who recently imposed 37% tariff on BD and 26% on India. If BD had this access it meant it only got 26% on goods it sent thru India but now everything will have 37% tariff.
Imagine a similar shirt costing $100 made in India and made in Bangladesh... Indian made will cost $126 and Bangladesh made will cost $137. Now you can imagine what the traders will prefer to have a better profit margin.
Tough times ahead.
What Yunus is trying to do is beyond my comprehension at this point... cutting the branch he is sitting on.
Just chiming it to state that this is not factually correct. The certificate of origin for the traded goods will say Bangladesh irrespective of whichever port it sails from, and so the tariff will always be the same. By the same token, goods from Nepal will be tariffed at a 10% rate, although all of their exports are shipped out of ports in India which has a higher tariff of 26%. That does not mean that Nepali goods will be tariffed at 26%.
The more immediate impact of this cancellation will still be felt heavily by garments factories who will now be restricted only to using the limited capacities of Bangladeshi ports, which due to congestion can take longer and cost more in certain cases than shipping through Kolkata or other ports.
Border killings are politically motivated with no consequences for general Bangladeshi people. Those crossing the border illegally cannot claim human rights. India has several wanted persons in USA, UK . For sg Pannu, David Headley, Vijay Mallya etc. Even Bangladesh sheltered Mr Paresh Baruah and never handed him to India. Bangladesh under BNP has long provided terrorist support including ammunition to fracture India's Northeast. On the contrary, it should be India whose concerns of terrorism have not been resolved by Bangladesh.
I mean... when people are out there giving statement like "North East India is land locked and I am the guardian who can let you reach them", You are ought to show who is locked among who.
Ya'll even think for a second that your hatred actually matters to us? Stop day dreaming we ain't even consider ya'll a threat. More than 80 percent of Indians doesn't even know about the crap that is going on between India and bangladesh

At least we finally have an actual reason to hate India now.
