Just a vent: Also I'm not simply sick - my back is fucked.
Anyway.
I never take days off unless it's holiday or I'm genuinely vomiting/at death's door, so to speak.
I am a kitchen porter, and I absolutely adore my job. I love the rush of it and the exercise, as well as the social aspect and freedom to do it at my own pace, and take breaks as many times as I want. I'm grateful.
I digress.
I've had this back problem for the past few weeks. My back was busted two weeks ago and I had to take the week off. There was no issue there. I went abroad the week after and came back a few days ago. Last night I done my back in again.
I woke up this morning in agony, and I can't visit a doctor for medication until tomorrow.
So I've texted my boss and he's trying to slither around it, telling me to "just try", "take your time", "don't rush around as much". But I'm trying to get it through to him that I am not fit to perform my duties that they, and I, expect out of me.
I've left a final message saying I cannot come in tonight, and it's been left on read.
Now I'm sitting here waitin on confirmation. And now I feel like I'm gonna get reprimanded.
But as of right now, I am on the couch, like a pathetic vegetable, incapable of going upstairs for a piss without wailing in pain from the slightest motion, and I think that's made my boss annoyed at me.
This is my anxiety likely kicking in (I'm terrible with it, and it makes me think irrational thoughts), but I can't shake this feeling of immense guilt.
The reason I feel this way is because I am the most reliable KP they have right now, and I feel pressure from it. But it's Sunday, and we are supposedly really quiet today (dead, even) - so I don't understand the poking and prodding to get me to come in like this.
Am I overreacting? Full disclosure, they're nice people - but my current head chef is fairly new, and does not know me that well yet. So his first impression of me is likely "this dude is always off work" when it's only been the last two or three weeks.
