Openings and Closings Update: Sheetz Goes on Offensive with Plan to Open Store Across from Wawa in Downingtown
https://vista.today/2026/09/sheetz-store-wawa-chester-county/UPDATE: September 2026 – September 1 came and went with no Sheetz across from the Wawa near Downingtown. The project is still moving, just not as fast as the company first promised.
The convenience store and gas station chain plans to redevelop a shuttered Rite Aid in Downingtown, diagonally across from the Wawa at the intersection of East Lincoln Highway and Bondsville Road.

I'm a WaWa loyalist. Sheetz opened across from the WaWa closest to me. I went in the store to see what they had. I never have to return.

This is the truth. One of those PA chains, Sheetz, Rutter's, hell i'll take Turkey Hill over the sea of Wawa & 7/11!

I've been meaning to go take pics of this one, but it's at a very busy intersection. I don't think this is close to opening soon, based on what I've seen. Maybe I'm wrong though.
There's another closed Rite Aid a few miles from this location in Downingtown as well. If you want to check that one out, here you go:

Sheetz was killing wawa by prioritizing in store order over delivery but since that has changed I basically never go in sheetz now

I went into a sheetz this weekend for the first time while traveling. Didn’t buy anything. Wasn’t impressed. Also not impressed with Wawa anymore but even my girlfriend that lived in Ohio for most of her life says she prefers Wawa at this point. When we talk about late night coffee while in Ohio we go out of our way to go to the rare Wawa out there.
Also I’ve never seen a Wawa food prep area as dead as that sheetz was. Seemed like people most went in to use the bathroom and get a drink while getting gas rather than anything to do with the store. And all the protein bars were squished.

If they bring their Arabic bean coffee, Wawa is winning. Their coffee tastes more like gas station coffee.
