Hows the Alternative/Indie Scene?

As a senior in high school on the college hunt, I have been avoiding looking at more southern state schools since I hear a lot of tails how the Greek Life and overall culture isn't very rich in a more alternative or 'self-expressive' scene. I'm sure there isn't any high-school movie style bullying but I was curious if the school had a good sized alternative student body.

KU is an incredibly alternative friendly school. the DIY scene is amazing here & there's a lot of art students which results in a larger alternative environment. the granada, liberty hall, and the bottleneck are close to campus and have a lot of great indie/alternative bands playing. KJHK 90.7 is a great student organization to become involved with as well

Greek life is very big here, but it’s also a very eclectic and accepting town. Search “LFK” to get a basic feeling of Lawrence.

Not everyone who goes to KU went Greek. Some of us joined I Tappa Kega. Lots of alternatives to Greek life. You’d love it!
