Food (Only on Friday) I dislike gum
Chewing gum is basically chewing a piece of flavored plastic mixed with saliva. To make it more disgusting, if you have a little bit of food or plaque stuck in your teeth, it might get onto the gum and mix with it. So then you are chewing a piece of plastic with bits of your chicken from lunch in it.
Also, the noise it makes is annoying to others. Even if nobody is around, hearing yourself chew gum isn't the most pleasant sound either.
Not that it's an important argument against gum, but I think chewing a lot really tires out my jaw ans makes it hurt. It could be related to my slight jaw issues from my misaligned teeth though.

Ironically 10 out of 10 dentists approve of chewing gum exactly because it helps clean your mouth after eating.

It also stimulates saliva production which is very good for your teeth!

The bad part though is that if you chew too much, it upsets your stomach because it prepares to digest food that isn't there

Overall most gums are just marketing bells in the idea that it helps oral hygiene. They do more bad than good

Wait, regular gum has sugar in it in the US? That's crazy. Regular gum in the EU is sugar free. I'm not even sure where you would buy gum with sugar these days.

Same in Australia. They all say sugar free like it's a selling point, but literally all of them are sugar free.

Yeah, when you see one of those classic gumball machines, those have sugar. But yeah most of the gum you buy nowadays is sugar free.

Does that count as regular gum though? Do people use those? I thought we were talking about those little sticks you guys have. We also don't really have those in the EU. Gum is usually shaped like a little brick.

Gum has existed for thousands of years. Sugar free gum didn't exist until the mid to late 20th century.

I don't mean noticeably. I mean I hate the idea of chewing on something that contains traces of plaque, even if I can't feel or taste it.

You can still do all those things, you don't have to chew gum if you don't want to
You might freak out when you understand what makes it easier to swallow food after you've chewed it, though

I actually use gum to clean my teeth out quickly in public when I don’t have time/privacy to brush before putting my Invisalign trays in after eating something that got stuck in my teeth. It’s very handy.
I don’t really get what’s gross about eating food that’s literally been in your mouth and you’ve been partially eating this whole time. It’s food you’ve already agreed to eat (it’s in your mouth) and the only stuff it’s come in contact with is your saliva which goes right down the same hole. Don’t give me some “but there’s bacteria in plaque” bs. Because we both know that the exact same bacteria in the food and in the plaque is floating in every gulp of spit too. It’s all the same.
The only thing gross about gum is the plastic nature of it and that you’re just drinking flavored spit but that’s the same issue you have with lollipops so pick a struggle
