Bayan Question/Modulation
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
was wondering if my bayan sounds proper. I feel like I can bend properly but anytime I do a ghisa the louder noise is my palm sliding versus the actual modulation of the beat.
I have a copper dagga around 4kg & I use talc powder pretty regularly. I’ve also tried orienting the drum at different angles so wrist is closer to siyahi but still deal w the same problem
Any tips?

The dugga seems tight on one side and loose on the other. You playing style is perfect, just apply a tad bit more pressure on the base of the palm while striking and lift the base as soon as you stirke to get that Ghumaas/resonant Ga tone

How would you recommend figuring out what side is right and what side is loose? I know to make one side tight you can add the gatta but how could I make it looser

Full disclosure, this is something I need to work on as well.
The beauty of the sound comes from applying or releasing pressure. When you hit with pressure, you release the pressure with slide that creates the effect.
Similarly more effects by playing it without pressure then applying pressure to close the sounds.
I have been told Bayan is it's own subject and will need it's own practice for each effect.
