Dice drop generation

Upvotes

Looking for more games that use dice drop generation - IE you drop the dice on paper and depending on the dice results and where they physically land on the paper, that determines how the map turns out. Usually it's for map creation, but I'm interested in this procedure for generating other things like faction dynamics (which Into the Cess and Citadel does). The ones I'm aware of at this point are Cairn 2e, Pirate Borg, Charles Ferguson Avery (Feral Indie Studios) has a bunch - Into the Cess and Citadel as mentioned, Into the Weird and Wyld, and Vast in the Dark... I'm sure that's just scratching the surface, though.

Anyway, I really like this procedure and am looking for more. Drop some recommendations, please and thank you!

Would anyone be willing to run a weird ttrpg i made years ago? It is inspired by Devil Survivor and Fire Emblem.

Upvotes

Hey so a some years ago I made a very basic ttrpg when a game i was interested in was.....not what i wanted i guess.....

If any of you are familiar with Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE you may know that it was originally pitched as an SMT and Fire Emblem crossover, and that it ended up being....not really like either one. When it came out I decided to try it myself, but lacking any skill with coding i tried my hand at a ttrpg.

It is untested and I dont know much about how balanced it is, plus i never was able to figure out how to upload modifiable grids to show weapon ranges, but i tried to make it all fun and usable otherwise. Having said that it is called Familiar Fate and i will now try to pitch it to you like the blurbs on the backs of ps2 games.

**》Start as a average joe and become something more on a path to avoid an unfortunate end....**

\- Start as a regular person in a profession of your choice.

\- Create a familiar and use their power to escalate yourself into a challenger of false gods.

\- Switch between a wide selection of weapon types, each with their own special gimmicks and effects.

\- learn devastating magic and techniques to to even the odds and grab ahold of your potential to overcome threats.

**》Explore a post world wide web society where incomplete chains of recievers act to carry the burden.**

**-** Find out how a collapsing society pushes recklessly onward in a world without satellites.

\- Learn to use the limited tech available to improve your lives and create new opportunities for success.

\- Use public terminals as a way to access public records, hack into illicit websites, and find rumors which may assist you in your endevors.

**》****Face enemies birthed by a power which is beyond the mortal coil, and bind that power to you in order to exceed your limitations.**

**-** Face four different enemy tribes each with theor own gimmicks, including other humans with their own intentions and agendas.

\- Slay the otherworldly Mirages and use their cores to empower your familiar or your gear in different ways.

\- Face powerful bosses which hoard artifacts capable of crowning gods.

**》Obtain the artifacts of ascension to empower, or else defy those would be gods.**

\- Track down the cannidates for godhood and take their artifacts of ascension, or partner with them to create a new world order.

\- Face a god from every major faction, and decide for yourself who or what is worthy of the Chalice of god.

**Can you successfully cause a deviation in the future of humanity and save yourself, or will you and all that you know be subjected to a Familiar Fate?**

You are not your character, its a game.

Their are some people that are abusing rpgs claiming they are theraputic sessions to help people with trauma, this kind of thinking invites crazy people into the hobby who abuse others to exploit their innocence, if you see people using the hobby as a reason to mentally diagnois people that is abuse faking as empathy, call them out for everyones safety.

Free Apple Orchard Battlemap 20x30 Day/Night, Autumn, Basic, Horror Versions

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

Crisp, brown leaves crunch underneath your feet as you climb a small hill, the wafting scent of cinnamon and apples on the wind luring you upward, along a dirt path. As you crest the hilltop, you're met with the sight of a small orchard with two buildings sitting adjacent. Birds caw nosily from the field, pecking at fallen apples beneath the base of the trees. Other travelers wander to and from the building on the left; those leaving carrying armfuls of jars and pies. Your stomachs grumble, and you press on towards the farm.

This apple orchard map is 20x30 200DPI, and comes with three variants: Autumn, basic (which has an autumnal tint, but is not overwhelmed with orange hues) and horror, which is a desaturated gloomy version fit for any spooky campaign.

If you'd like to download them free, you can here.

Subscribers can get versions that are non-gridded and non-watermarked + PNG and WEBP files of individual components (tiers 2-4).

This map is made entirely with ItsJustWitchAssets and many of these assets will be available in this month's asset pack.

Enjoy the maps! Happy gaming, stay magical ~

Teamwork Ideas Needed

Upvotes

We're making a TTRPG - d100 roll-under, player-facing rolls, zones instead of grid cells. Setting is dieselpunk. An armada of 100 ships tried to reach the wall of the Eternal Storm. 30 made it through. Players and their characters explore the new continent and keep coming back to the drifting Chained City (those 30 ships, lashed together).

Characters get a bunch of abilities, and during playtesting we found out teamwork combos are super duper fun even simple ones.

Example: one ability lets you spend a quick action to watch a zone, if an enemy enters or leaves it, you get a free(kinda) shot as a reaction. There's also a Push manifestation (kinda magic). So one character pushes an enemy into the watched zone and triggers the other player's reaction. Or pushes an enemy into a bunch of other enemies right before someone throws a grenade. (players always act in same turn)

It genuinely feels like teamwork, not just everyone does their own thing. There's also a simple dimple Help action that grants a bonus, but I want more of that built-in reasons for characters to set each other up.

Would love to hear how your systems encourage this kind of combo play. Any mechanics, ability designs, or just raw ideas welcome.

Deep Sky Ballad Development Diary on Patreon

Upvotes

Hello! I'm Marco Calesella from Winged Lion Games. Unlike our previous projects, which we revealed only when they were nearly complete, we have decided to make the development diary for the second edition of the Space Western role-playing game *Deep Sky Ballad* publicly available. Every week, we will share ideas, impressions, presentations, and prototypes covering all aspects of the game’s development, from gameplay mechanics to setting and art direction, including PDF files of the alpha version of the rules in both English and Italian. The diary (in English) is hosted on Patreon, but all the material is freely accessible to all visitors without requiring a subscription. We are doing this because we want you to be part of our journey, and we would love to hear your feedback on any aspect of the project. We plan to work steadily on everything for at least the next two years before considering a release. So please visit the page, read and study the material, and if you like it, follow us and leave your comments! Thank you!

Divine Alignment Mechanic

Upvotes

So, in the game I am working on (Hallowed: Saints and Heretics), classes are divided into two.

First, you have the saints. If you choose to follow one of the seven gods, your character belongs to the saints. For instance, Alarin is the god of fire and light. As his follower, you can either choose the Lightbringer (light-based attacks, purity, a bit paladin-like) or the Fire Mage (self-explanatory, fire spells, has the most mana to cast spells, eventually can fuel spells also with HP). Similarly, the god of time and death (Deramen) either makes you a prophet (foretelling, time spells etc.) or an inquisitor (basically a divine executioner, death-related spells, spell cancellation etc.)

On the other hand, you have the heretics. The witch for instance has no patrons, but has powers (spells, illusions, shapshifting etc.) from studying the Outer Darkness (home of dark "gods"). You also have the occultist who does have some kind of patron in the form of an Outer Being (Sanguine Mother, Ta'qir, Xarthar). The occultist's patron gives them sub-classes, but the occultist has base abilities as well.

What do you think about this system of mine? Does it make sense?

Shonen/Seinen Anime TTRPG

Post image
Upvotes

Hello everybody! :)

If you like action-packed anime series, this game is made for you. 🙂 It is not a JRPG simulator, nor is it simply an anime-style skin for a well-known game engine.

It was built from the ground up to make anime storytelling part of the game itself, helping you think and play like you are in a series.

My game's campaign is starting soon in September. 🤞

Thank you for taking a look at it. 🤘🤘

Anybody else own more TTRPG's than they'll ever actually play?

Upvotes

I may be a bit of a.... collector at this point. I own rulebooks for like a dozen different TTRPG's, including the bigger ones and multiple versions of those, random solo games, indie games, even a big book of 25+ one shot standalone games.

The problem is that I literally don't even have a gaming group to play with. I haven't even ACTUALLY played D&D in over 10 years.

Just bought Slugblaster and Ion Heart at Pax West today and I'm stoked about them (especially Ion Heart as I might actually get to play it. lol) but I already know I won't be playing any group campaigns any time soon.

In your opinion, why bother reading 'game engines'

Upvotes

By game engines, I mean straight up system books such as GURPS, BRP core rulebooks. I'm just looking to hear from people who have read manuals like those, and am curious what you get out of them that you couldn't get out of just reading the rules for a game using that system.

This isn't me trying to slam them down or say it's pointless or anything. I'm curious because I want to expand my knowledge and am wondering what the best ways to do it are.

Keen to hear any and all perspectives.

Borrowing your vast cosmic knowledge.

Upvotes

So I'm going to write a new Sci fi ttrpg, but I wanted to check your infinite knowledge if it already exists.

Basically high high hard Sci-fi.

Combat is limited by the speed of light, and distructive potential is limited to how much of the planet you want to be left when you are done.

(one turn is a micro second. entitys can think faster than that, but given light only travels 30 cm in a nanosecond this has limited value in combat. Hence one turn is a micro second giving light a chance to crawl 300 meters)

Then their is magic,

Magic in this world is completely illogical, no entity has ever been Able to scientifically understand it. And it only responds to natural biological entitys. Any attempts to game the system for instance by growing slaves in freaky science tubes, would not work. Although manipulation of biological beings to do magic for you seems to work.

Cybernetic enhanced bio entitys can command magic, but you have less control over it the more enhanced you are.

Magic has vastly less distructive capacity than a maximized destroyer drone, but can do things that are otherwise not scientifically possible. Predicting the future, perception faster than light. And of course altering reality itself.

Strictly while making no sense whatsoever.

Using AI as a GM - Asking myself questions

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I'm struggling with questions around the use of AI in my practice as a GM. Wanted to run through the lines I have for myself and see if other people have similar lines or if people think differently.

At the moment, I'm running a couple different things, some online, some in person. There is one use of AI that I'm fine with. There are some clear lines, and then there are some uses that I'm a little bit unsure of, in the gray area.

The first one that I'm fine with is that I use AI to make props like documents or labels for objects, in-world pieces of paper for players to find. These are usually text-heavy props where the AI system is a lot faster at generating dump text and formatting it in a reasonably realistic way. For example, if I'm creating a bunch of ship logs with a hidden pattern, I use AI to generate the documents with my guidance. This is not the kind of prop I'd be able to make otherwise and the specifics of my world are hard to replicate without tailoring. I've had huge success in games with passing these out to players as in-world objects. It makes the puzzles a lot more engaging and interesting. How do people feel about this kind of usage?

Second, I've kind of started using it to vet my stories for any holes. Now, I have a red-line against using AI-generated narratives or stories, they just don't feel as interesting as building the beats and writing the adventure, but I like having something to quickly check and make sure nothing is logically inconsistent. I feel a little less good about this one, inadvertently some AI suggestions will sneak into the game and I feel a little conflicted about that.

Any kind of AI-art showing player characters or in-world characters is a red-line, I like theatre of the mind and descriptions for this. Some of my players like using AI to generate character portraits, but we try and keep them out of the game. I tend to rough-sketch like settings and scenery on whiteboards where needed. I also like creating my own maps.

Any kind of AI-assisted DM-ing is also a red-line.

I'm wondering if the props and logic-checking for stories are things I need to reconsider. Any thoughts?
