I'm a private investor based in overseas and I'll be visiting Suriname for tourism later this month and into the start of October. While I'm there I thought I'd love to understand what the local business market looks like.

What I'm hoping to find:

• Local operators, entrepreneurs, or professionals who are willing to share how business really works here — the honest picture, not just the optimistic one
• Potential partners or connectors — people with market knowledge, networks, or operational capability, in any sector
• Anyone who's worked with foreign investors before, helped them navigate the market, or has an interest in doing so
• Honest views on where the real opportunities are - real estate, hospitality, agriculture, energy services, trade, anything

I'm not coming with a done deal or a fixed idea. I'm coming to learn and to see if there are people worth building something with over time.

Hello! Our business is based in the Netherlands and we have a client in Suriname. It takes sooooo long to get the payment as our client's bank (Fina Bank) takes ages. It's been 2 days since they have deducted the money from our client's account and the money still has not reached our Dutch bank account. It's a weekly invoice of €3000-€4000. Is there any other and faster way to send money (€) outside of Suriname. It seems that international transfers via online banking is not a thing there. Anyone can share their experience on B2B money transfer/payment? Would appreciate any tips. Thank you! 🙏🏻

Volgend jaar ben ik weer in Su met gezin. Normaal is er altijd iemand in de familie die zelf aanbiedt dat ik een auto van ze kan lenen en alhoewel ik dat apprecieer wil ik dit keer toch zelf een auto huren en niemand "lastig vallen".

Dus, iemand in deze sub met aanbevelingen waar ik betrouwbaar en goede auto's kan huren? Liefst een hoge auto, 5 zits en geen gekke voorwaarden dat ik niet buiten de stad mag of bauxietwegen of weet ik wat.

Tuurlijk heb ik gegoogled en de bekende internationale aanbieders zijn er, maar ook lokale en ik ben dus meest benieuwd naar lokale aanbevelingen.

I am almost sure there are no big institutions to learn it, but can someone tell me how they look for Surinamese Dutch teachers? I’m interested in learning Dutch from a Caribbean/South American perspective and would like to spend some months in Suriname doing so.

Ik was benieuwd of hier Nederlanders zijn die verhuisd zijn van Nederland naar Suriname en gepast werk hebben gevonden naar hun opleidingsniveau. Waar vind je vacatures op opleidingsniveau? Ik ben van plan om naar Suriname te verhuizen alleen vind ik het vinden van werk lastig. Op internet vind je niet zo heel veel. En als je ervaring hebt hiermee, verdien je genoeg of is het echt een heel verschil tov Nederland?

I myself am Dutch with Javanese roots and I have been learning the language for a while. However, I found that most Dutch people of Javanese descent aren't really interested in the language and moreso in learning Indonesian. Since there is such a large group of people in Suriname with Javanese roots, I was wondering if any of you are actively learning the language and would like to practice together!

Voor context, gelieve lezer. Ik (19M) heb geen flauw idee wat ik met mijn leven ga doen. Ik heb voor de laatste 4 jaren WTB gestudeerd, maar nu dat ik mijn middelbare school heb afgerond ben ik tot de ontdekking gekomen dat ik in niets WTB-gerelateerd goed in ben. Ik ben in schok. Het lijkt alsof dit uit een film komt. Ik hoop dat hij nog leeft want dit is insane. Verder vind ik het erg dat de CEO van Rudisa wordt bekritiseerd, voornamelijk op sociale media omdat zij misschien een relatie had. Zij is net zo goed slachtoffer. Mogen vrouwen geen tweede relatie etc. hebben? Dit laat zien dat Suriname nog steeds een lage standaard voor vrouwenrechten hanteert en dat victim blaming etc. nog steeds de boventoon vieren in Suriname. Teleurstellend.

Ik hoop dat hij levend wordt gevonden en zo niet, dat het duidelijk wordt waarom deze gruwelijkheden hebben plaatsgevonden. Veel sterkte voor de nabestaanden.

I'm planning to travel to Suriname soon and online I read that all drones (even under 250g) need to be registered before entering the country. However, upon asking around I hear a lot of people don't and they do not check. Is it best to register my dji mini beforehand or risk it? I'd really like to not get it taken off me. I'm entering the country from French Guiana and leaving by flying out of Paramaribo.
