90% of male homophobes probably operate like this on some level whether they admit it or not. They may not actually support lesbians but they 100% will still crank to them and excuse their existence even if they don't want them to have rights because they get titillation out of it that they don't get from gay men.

I swear it's why we have so many more lesbians in tv shows and movies than we ever do gay men. People rarely bat an eye when a lesbian is on screen (Hell it's encouraged to have lesbians in shows) but the moment it's gay men then it's a problem.

And please don't get me started on how when a show does have gay men, people complain that "everything is for gay men" and that these shows "pretend lesbians don't exist"

Almost 0 mainstream shows or movies have gay men that are not a walking stereotype for comic relief.

Yep in spite of the fact that gay men outnumber lesbians 2:1 in every single survey across cultures

I take your point and there's definite truth in what you're saying but I would add that 99% of those lesbians in tv or film will have ended up broken up/with a man/or dead. It's a literal trope that lesbians on screen will not have a happy ending (excuse the pun).

It is more 'Oh hot women kissing - we like that!' but no actual happiness as an end game. And any average or 'not hot' lesbians will be a bitch or an out-right man hater.
