True. Seems the underlying theory is you’d eliminate crime if you eliminate suffering. You just replace one bad act with someone having the capacity to do more. Those people who are committing violent crimes and crimes of stealing do it because they are just shit heads.
It would eliminate crime motivated by economic hardship. It might decrease domestic violence and maybe drug addiction, but those stats would take about a generation to start showing evidence. It would a cool social experiment if we could commit 30 year to it and then evaluate the results
We already have. Most of Western Europe has significant social welfare programs which have significantly reduced their poverty. As a result they have some of the lowest crime rates in the world.
When everything becomes perfect, people do things out of boredom. To create, we break things or out of perfection nothing can be made, because every process involves breaking something up.
It's not that we want perfection to be enemy, its that we want solice in our lives. To much solice creates boredom. Then there are those that thrive on chaos. Where's the balance? What is the balance?
Why would you risk imprisonment for an incremental benefit? If you're making enough to support your family it's unlikely you're robbing the corner store for a few thousand dollars.
Some people think that there are people who WANT to do crimes. The counterargument is REALLY simple and REALLY logical.
Crime is risky. Criminals would rather not do it if they could do other things. But sometimes, after the risk/reward math, it's the best path out of a bad situation.
Improve the situation for those people, and the risk of crime makes it less attractive than doing things that aren't crime.
People aren't evil. That's a stupid/simple explanation we give to people's actions after the fact, excusing us from thinking too hard about real root causes and preventing us from having to confront making real change.
People ARE, however, CONSTANTLY calculating risk vs reward, and sometimes in our current dystopia, crime is the best outcome of that math.
Thats true but also still doesnt mean that people are constantly calculating risk vs reward, especially in an age when people are stretched so thin, with so few social safety nets and such limited access to mental healthcare.
Crime would be reduced, but my point is just that people dont work that way. Thats some grind culture kill yourself for work, all people need are incentives type logic that has been disproven.
People do that because they get a fix. You think these crimes are crimes of necessity? Like they are all Aladdin. Gotta eat to live gotta steal to eat…
That’s actually not the case at all, they don’t think about consequences when they’re at that point. You are a college kid I’m guessing? Not much real world experience?
Insults to start, and then when they clap back move to putting words in their mouth because you’re too scared to argue against the actual statements they made.

It sounds great but you’ll still have crime and violence. You’ll never get rid of humans capacity to commit evil acts
