I built a private iPhone app to keep my partner and me honest about feeding the dog

After years of "wait, did you feed Luna this morning?" arguments, I built an iPhone app called Petstead to put a single timeline of our pets care in one place.

It's deliberately boring on purpose:

  • Local-first (works without an account)
  • No AI, no care recommendations, no calorie math
  • Just a clear plan, what was Last Done, and a factual receipt when you tap "done"
  • Optional household sharing so my partner can accept coverage requests explicitly

The thing that mattered most to me was corrections don't quietly rewrite history. If I mark breakfast done at 8am but it was actually 7:30, I add a correction and the original fact stays visible.

Currently in TestFlight, free with one pet. iPhone only.

Curious — for the pet owners here, what would actually get you to switch from a notes app or memory to a dedicated tool? Or is "just remember" good enough?

Happy to answer technical questions too. Built it solo in SwiftUI/SwiftData.

I take it you havent checked out what this app actually does. Not sure if I am allowed to post a liink to the landing page but I dont want to break any rules.

Made something similar with a webapp. Use a widget app to display on iPhone and shortcuts on iPhone to put in.
Meal tracking, poop tracking (with photos) and training tracking

The timeline thing with corrections staying visible is clever, most apps just overwrite and you lose the truth of what happened

Is that even a thing? I own a dog too but never bothered if i am 30 mins late to feed or not. Just curious why someone would want to track it.

It is not just the time to feed but a lot more than that. some more info on the app here. nanohits.com/petstead That will give you all what the app does. For me, the most useful part of the app is the alarm on the phone that goes off when it's time for medication.
