I built a sketch-to-3D tool using Astra. Would love some honest feedback.

I used to work in Gametech many years ago. I’ve been building Hajimete3D using Astra, and I’d love feedback from people outside my own bubble.

You can start with a sketch, upload an image, or describe a character. The app can generate artwork and turn it into a textured 3D model you can rotate and download. We’ve also added an API and a local MCP connector.

There’s a real example you can rotate on the homepage without generating anything:

I’m trying to understand what people would actually use this for. Character exploration? Simple props for a prototype? Something else?

Generation is paid, and models may need cleanup - they aren’t guaranteed rigged or game-ready. You can DM me for promo code.

What feels useful, what’s confusing, and what would stop you from trying it?

just ran a quick sketch through it, the 3d rotation is way smoother than i expected

i could see this being useful for blocking out scenes or getting a quick reference model to paint over, not so much for final assets but that's probably fine

the pricing page took me a second to find, maybe surface that a bit more

does astra generate the mesh straight from the sketch or do you generate 2d art first and then lift it to 3d

I’m using common generators and old code to make it work. I used Astra for the basic stuff

the "may need cleanup, not rigged" part is the honest bit and it basically decides the use case. fine for props and blocking out scenes, but anyone doing characters seriously needs rigging, so they'd bounce off that. i'd lean into the prototype angle and make the api the hero - solo game devs would rather hit an endpoint than open an editor.

what would stop me: paid generation before i can see one result from my own sketch. the homepage demo is someone else's input. let people run one free gen on their own drawing, that converts way better than promo codes over dm.
