Discussion What do you hope we get for the 25th anniversary of Ratchet & Clank next year? With R&C 2002 being added to PS Plus Classics this year, I am hopeful for something great.

It's so awesome that R&C 2002 is finally getting ported, and I hope to see it happen with the rest of the trilogy and Deadlocked next year. Hopefully it's not just avatars that we get lol

Discussion I’m really sad about this franchise man

Upvotes

Hi, I’m Moe. I’ve loved ratchet and clank since I was like 6. I haven’t played every game I’ll admit, but the few games I have played and all the YouTube videos I’ve watched on the series made me something of a superfan. When I finished rift apart I was super excited for a DLC or next game or something showing the lombax home world and maybe even getting a romance between Rivet and Ratchet.

When this happened, I was graduating high school. I’m now a college graduate looking for a job and I haven’t gotten so much as a trailer.

I love Spider-Man and wolverine, I really do, but I’d trade them for ratchet and clank in a heartbeat. It means so much to me. Push spider-man 3 to 2028 or whatever, I’ll wait, just gimme my ratchet and clank

Congratulations to u/DawnStrikAr for unplugging the plumber and getting with Skrunch's sister (she wasn't found initially). Where is Skrunch's sister now?

General The cutscene glitches and general bugs from the ps3 port of the og trilogy are overexaggerated so much Spoiler

Upvotes

Particularly with 2 and 3, you can barely tell some of the cutscenes are bugged. Same goes for Ratchets helmet. If you didnt play the original ps2 versions I’d doubt you’d even realise the helmet is a bit oversized.

They’re for the most part great ports of the game.

Can’t wait for the ps5 ones though

General Weird question, does the North American copy of Ratchet and Clank Collection come with the Sly 4 demo as a digital download or is the demo included on the disc?

Upvotes

I’m shopping around and I noticed the digital version of the game includes the Sly 4 demo in the bundle plus an avatar, while the physical edition mentions a voucher on the back of the case. Not a big deal I’m just curious since I know some PS3 games had demos on them.

All 4 One Question About All 4 One

Upvotes

Hey yall, would anyone be interested in doing a co op run for All 4 One? I want to platinum it and I’ve heard the more players you have the more bolts you get so I’m looking for a group. Ratchet and Clank is one of my favorite gaming franchises and I want to platinum atleast 10 of the 12 games that have trophies. I’m on the PS5 streaming the game through ps premium by the way

Discussion Missing free games from PS3 hack era?

Upvotes

So I distinctly remember playing through a pirate R&C game (I wanna say it was Quest for Booty? The only thing I can really remember was that it had a point in the story where you had to defend a beach for a bit midway through the game) as well as the first game and the point in the 2nd game where all the fluffy things turn into evil gremlins or smfn (I had to quit cause that whole section was just way too difficult for me at the time), all of which was on my current PSN account.

I remember the pirate one at least was one of Sony's free gifts to make up for when PSN was hacked and down for months, and I wanna say the original trilogy as well (I remember it was all 3 in 1 application sorta thing and that you couldn't play them in any order, you had to play 1 before you could touch 2 and so on) but I can't find either of them anywhere on my games list but I can see 1 and 2 in my trophy list. Only thing I can think of rn is Sony being Sony took them back/removed them cause you will own nothing and be happy is their motto.

Ratchet and Clank (2016) Ratchet and Clank The Movie The Game / Remake? First time replay in 10 yrs as a fan since the beginning and game art dev

What an interesting game this is. I struggle with it… it somehow feels like less a game than Into the Nexus. Recreating a few of the worlds (omitting Eudora, Umbris, Hoven, Orxon, Oltanis Orbit (Gemlik Base), Oltanis, Drek's Fleet… half the game. Quartu is completely changed - many of which were my favorites).
Turns out the maps from the original games don’t really feel very substantial when coupled with modern R&C controls. Bulking up the enemy presence helps a bit, but only a little.
I could sit here and complain more, tbh, but I think what’s been said about this game has been said. It was a disappointment, like the film. I’ll instead focus my comments on the art, which I found lovely, and things I did like.
Also, the screen shots added are comparisons between the remade areas with their direct counterparts in the original. I find the updates stunning.
Also… they could have added an arena to pad the game length. A very odd omission imo.

+music is sort of a recreation of the original game’s soundtrack, but lacking in flair. Oops, I said I was being positive.

+ we get the story of R&C 1 through Qwark’s perspective. This accomplishes a few things = him seeming more heroic and less terrible than he was in the original is just Qwark’s own perspective of what happened. The game has an unreliable narrator. Including Nefarious within the story helps him brush the fact he bullied Nefarious and dropped him into a vat under the rug. The simplification of Ratchet’s personality is how Qwark might have saw him in the original, a naive do-gooder. The omission of Umbris and Oltanis make sense, as those are locations he was embarrassed at. This is simply a way I enjoyed reading the story, it’s certainly not confirmed.

+ love the updates to the original levels that are here. Kerwan in particular finally hits the grandeur the original game imprinted into my imagination. The expanded train sequence showed the potential this could have met as a remake. We got Resident Evil 3, but we could have gotten Resident Evil 2.

+ nefarious being added to the story was at first enjoyable. Him appearing in his original squishy form was fun… but turning Drek into a sheep and usurping him as the main villain was contrived. Drek being stripped of his status as a conniving capitalist was a bummer, especially as capitalism’s injustices to human rights had only gotten worse since the original game by 2016. (Apologies for inputting my own politics in here, but all art is inherently political so you wah wah).

+ the return of a few of Nexus mechanics was interesting. The mechanics were great, so I have little complaints. Exploring an expanded Gaspar (again.. THE POTENTIALLLL 😭😭😭😭😭) was a blast with the jet pack.

+ giving Batalia a snowy makeover gave the area some more life, but I never cared much for that level and I still didn’t here.

+ the absence of many of the quirky characters you encounter was a bit sad, but retaining the enemy variety from the original game was an impressive feat for modern games (or at least 10 yrs ago). Idk if fans realize this, but an enemy model during PS2 era would have taken character artists about 1/5th of the time it took in 2015. Higher fidelity models do not benefit in timely completion with modern tech, it simply allows for more accuracy to our imagination.

+ this was Jim Wards last major performance in games as Qwark. RIP him and his captain Qwark, a childhood favorite of mine. There was a bitter sweetness to finishing this game. At my age, I doubt I will ever play it again. Maybe when I’m old as shit. My great grandma played these games in her 80’s (fucking awesome old lady being a gamer lol. Unheard of back then).

Notes on screenshot 1-3: this was such a faithful to the original recreation of Kerwan. Neither UYA or Tools achieved the lush greens, bustling traffic, or towering buildings seen in the original in an impressive way. I also love that they prioritized beautifying the level over staying accurate to the original’s construction or building placement. Such good choices.

Screenshot 4-5: the original level art worked on PS2, but when you compare it to remake you realize “oh, these buildings were just sci fi shapes. What was this location? An office? A home? A vague town street? Remake attempted to answer those questions with adding purpose to each corner. Random corner shapes become a store front or computer consoles. The town corner seen I pic 4 now has a tunnel connecting it to the outside world, making some more sense of its odd street placement. Just a lot of good choices I very much enjoyed exploring. An aspect of the art direction I was not a fan of, however, were the overly cartoonish shapes and exaggerative features of BG elements such as the warped shopfront sliding gates, or the large paint variation detailed on metal panels. It doesn’t quite feel faithful to the art of the originals, which had some more structure to its world. The environment art was ALWAYS very stylized, but more in a Hey Arnold way, not a Courage the Cowardly Dog way (a great show btw).

Ok I’m done. Ranking wise, this was the worst one so far, but insomniac completely rebounded with Rift Apart, so I don’t mind.

Deadlocked / Gladiator GET TO DA CHOP-er... EXTERMINATOR! What's the Lime GreeniestRatchet Deadlocked Enemy?

Again, I want a spiritual successor of Deadlocked. Gimme a gladiatorial combat game with ratchet Deadlock gameplay. If anyone here is making a game like that and needs an Aussie-sounding Exterminator Boss, I would be happy to throw my hat in the ring lol.

What did you guys like about the Exterminators in this series? I think it's how different they are. Even though they have 2 robots that have similar large builds, those characters are vastly different.

NO ONE FOUND Skrunch's sister yesterday. I am going to bring back the Plumber, but those who comment todays and yesterday's hidings I will havey ou both shouted out.

Going Commando/Locked & Loaded/R&C2 I would do anything to have manual aim while strafing in Going Commando

Upvotes

I love the game to the point it constantly fights it out with the first one as my favourite in the series, but man it would've been even better if you could just... aim manually while strafing.

Not even having lock-strafe mode, I actually prefer having to hold a button to strafe, as not every weapon works best while costantly strafing, but I just want to be able to aim manually instead of relying on the auto aim or locked on weapon mods (or first person mode, not really a fan of first person mode).

the games from UYA onwards HAVE manual aim, but they also have a way more linear level design, wich doesn't completely ruin the series, heck, Deadlocked is as linear as it could get, yet it is my second favourite, but man do I prefer the more open levels of 1 and 2.

And while I don't mind the lack of strafing in one, since the game was clearly build around that restriction, with fights feeling way more like puzzles that require solving (not that the later games lack strategy of course, it's just more important here), I don't feel quite the same in rac 2 with the lack of proper manual aim, especially in certain moments (like a... very specific arena boss...).

Again, I still love the game, but if someone sees this and decides to mod manual aim while strafing in the game, you are my hero

Ratchet & Clank (2002) How will this R&C 2002 port for PS4/PS5 work?

Upvotes

So, I saw the annoucement and I have a couple questions. Firstly, will this port be based on the PS2 version of the PS3 HD remaster? From my understanding, it's the former, but it seems silly that the game will be stuck in 4:3. I understand the PS3 had a lot of minor visual bugs (and music looping issues too from what I remember), but I personally was able to look past those for the widescreen support. I really hope this can support widescreen, but that wasn't the vibe I was getting.

Another question: is this going to have savestates and rewind functionality? I heard something like that from Google's AI, but wasn't sure how true that was. I've never played anything from the classics catalog.

Finally, do we have any time frame (aside from "later this year") for this release or do we just have to wait and see? I'm itching to play it right now lol

Series Do you think this franchise is still getting kid newcomers?

Upvotes

Rift Apart was good, but it's been five years since its release, and other than the OG games and the reboot, there's still no easily accessible way to play the other R&C games. A remake or even just a port would help fill the gap between new R&C releases, and I think most of the newcomers who were kids back then have already moved on from the franchise.

the increasing budget and development time for the new video games makes mascot platformers to survive harder these days huh

R&C 2002

Upvotes

I was gonna make a post asking why none of the ps2 games are purchasable on PS4 but I guess they announced the first one is finally gonna be available. Why on earth did it take this long? I only just recently got a PS4 and was shocked you needed PSPlus to stream them. Feels so scummy when they could easily make them available to buy. Even J&D are buyable which I’ve been greatly enjoying.
