I'm biracial. My dad is white, my mom is black. When I was like 6, someone at KFC called the cops on my dad saying he kidnapped me. We walked to the car and a cop came up to my dad's window and said people at the restaurant were concerned for my safety. The cop proceeded to ask me a bunch of questions, like, who is my dad, how do I know him, where do I live, etc. I started crying. My dad was pretty pissed.

I'm white, my nephew (who was 4 at the time) is biracial, I was watching him for an afternoon for my sister (who is a single mom) and we were at the grocery store when he started to throw a fit about me not buying him a toy he saw. I'm trying to talk with him but he's just busy being overwhelmed by his emotions like toddlers do . . . and this older black woman walks over and accuses me of trying to kidnap him, was yelling at me, threatening to call the cops (I told her to go ahead and do that lol) and poor kiddo switched from pissed off to scared so quickly. Ugh.

That's why I think it's so great the way her dad handled it. Kids can be traumatized by strangers like this, but how the parents react in these situations really influences how events like this stick with children. If they see their parents have super strong emotional reactions it becomes more potentially traumatic.
