METHOD — A low-budget psychological horror/drama concept I've been developing. Would love feedback.

Genre: Psychological Drama / Horror

Setting: Los Angeles — almost entirely one apartment, designed to be shot on a very low budget.

Logline

A struggling actor — rejected at every audition for not being "convincing enough" — freezes and lets his best friend die during a heart attack. Instead of coming clean, he uses his one real talent, mimicry, to impersonate his dead friend indefinitely. It becomes the most convincing performance of his life... and he can't stop giving it.

The Concept

Jake has spent years failing at acting. Every casting director tells him the same thing: he's trying too hard, he's not believable. The only person who keeps telling him to hang on is his roommate and best friend, Ryan — his one real connection in the world.

One night, Jake comes home to find Ryan mid-heart attack, triggered by a drug overdose. He reaches for his phone to call for help — but the TV, left on nearby, glitches and starts playing an old home video of Ryan saying, "Don't worry, your chance is coming." Jake stops. Looks at his dying friend. And makes a conscious choice not to help — thinking, in that moment, that this might actually be his opportunity.

Instead of calling it in, Jake decides to keep Ryan "alive" — using his gift for mimicry to take his friend's voice, mannerisms, and even his work-from-home job. But this isn't just about buying time. Jake starts deliberately recording his impersonation as a demo reel — proof of the transformation he's never been able to pull off in an audition room — planning to send it to a director he's chased for years.

What follows is a slow, unsettling descent: video calls as Ryan, texts as Ryan, visitors fooled by Ryan — all captured and edited into polished footage, with anything incriminating cut away. For the first time in his life, Jake is genuinely good at this. He just built his masterpiece out of a man's death.

The Twist Structure

For the first half of the film, the audience is deliberately misled — you believe Jake is the one who died, and it's Ryan, grieving and "a little off," refusing to accept his friend's death. The truth (that it's the reverse — Jake is alive and has been performing as Ryan the whole time) isn't confirmed to the audience until well into the story.

The Turn — When It Becomes a Different Movie

The illusion collapses early when a neighbor discovers the body and calls 911. From here, the film shifts tone entirely — from quiet psychological horror into an interrogation-room, procedural thriller. Jake can no longer maintain the "Ryan is alive" act. So he pivots to a new performance: convincing everyone — police, a court-appointed psychiatrist, even Ryan's own parents — that grief has broken his mind.

He never claims he's unstable. He simply acts it, so convincingly that trained professionals reach the conclusion themselves. The detective on the case finds the seized recordings — including the polished reel and the email to the director — proving Jake wasn't spiraling, he was building a portfolio. It's damning, but it doesn't fit cleanly with the disoriented man in custody either. The medical examiner's report confirms natural/accidental causes, and the psychiatric evaluation ultimately supports commitment over prosecution. He's sent to a psychiatric hospital instead of prison.

The Ending

Six months later, Jake is released, calm and "recovered." He returns to the apartment he actually owns (inherited from his late parents — Ryan had simply moved in as his roommate). He sits down at his laptop and opens his old editing software. He finds unedited footage from the night everything started — himself and Ryan, partying, recording each other, the exact moment Ryan first took the drugs that would kill him.

His phone buzzes — an email notification from the director he sent his reel to, all those months ago. He doesn't open it. He sets the phone face-down and begins calmly editing the old footage instead. The film ends there — no confession, no clear justice, no answer on whether the "break" he wanted ever came. Just a man quietly returning to the one performance he's ever been good at.

Back here after a few hiccups and some changes to the script. The story is now leaning more towards the human aspect, with sci-fi as the backdrop.

I have intentionally kept it to a single actor, which means we only see the hands or parts of the other characters when necessary. There's also quite a bit of voice-over to make the single actor setup work.

The main location is a one bedroom apartment, although I do have a couple of flashbacks that take place outside/on the street. I could move those into the apartment as well, but I felt they worked better this way.

As for the advertisement and bank pages, they are fairly easy to create in HTML. I actually created them before and shared them here, although that was about a year ago. Either way, they shouldn't be difficult to recreate.

Now that the era of Covid-19 vaccinations has come to an end, some people have continued to wearmasks, not to protect themselves, but to better conceal their bloodthirsty and cannibalistic genetic mutations.
 
SYNOPSIS

Marvin is a YouTuber specialized in seduction. The goal of his channel entitled "Marvin pécho" (Marvin seduces) is to approach women in the street in order to seduce them, to inspire confidence and assurance in some shy, inexperienced or even virgin men. He regularly scours the Parisian neighborhoods with his regular cameraman Michael, to immortalize his interactions, in a coercive context of wearing a mask, related to the sanitary measures against covid-19. Being a free spirit and a bit of a rebel, he is reluctant to always wear this modern muzzle, unlike the various women he approaches in the street, who voluntarily submit to this rule. Then comes this unexpected governmental speech stipulating that this restrictive measure is finally lifted. Strangely enough, some French people don't seem to want to hear it this way and still try to wear the mask for no apparent good reason. Like this mysterious voluptuous black woman, whom Marvin is about to seduce. But sometimes the veil of a mystery is better than a mask that falls.
 
COMMENTS

What inspired this story is the fact that people nowadays, despite the lifting of coercive health restrictions, still continue to wear masks. Being constantly creative, I thought that the reason for this might be (in a parallel multiverse, created in my mind) so that they could better hide their faces, which have been completely disfigured by the side effects of the vaccine. Having become devious, Machiavellian, sociable and patient mutant cannibals, they would conceal their monstrously mutilated faces so they could go out in public, until the fateful moment when their masks would fall away, allowing them to devour their prey—who had been amiably lured into a trap. Those who have been vaccinated the most, on multiple occasions, are the ones who have undergone these malevolent genetic transformations, which is why they are forced to wear their masks at all times – masks they will cast aside during their next cannibalistic feasts.

Logline: Just wanted to gauge interest in a short story I wrote that could be the basis for a short film. Called "One Out Of," it is about ten people talking about statistics and how, when ten people gather, statistics may start to pick them out (x out of ten will die of this disease, y out of ten may die in a car crash, etc.).

Synopsis: Halloween night in Salem, group of young adults gather in a rich townhouse and are discussing stuff. Statistics come up. The idea is a group of ten will stick out to statistics, but not something closer to one. So one of the ten decides to kill everyone else, and he is left standing at the conclusion. The short story is mostly dialogue, so it easily converts to a script, but like I say, just first wanted to see if anyone thought this was a good idea or not. Thanks.

SYNOPSIS :

This time, Stephanie is determined not to give in to Sylvester's whims and is preparing to board her flight at Dubai airport. Sylvester is forced to stay put because he has an important business meeting the next day. While his sweetheart is already in the air, Sylvester receives a call from his friend David, who lives in Paris. David reveals his time-traveling abilities and then informs Stephanie that he will never see her again, as she will be killed in a plane crash in Russia within a few hours.

A few months ago I decided to start writing my first movie, and in doing so I was checking the softwares available out there. Stumbled on the big ones, but didn't want to pay anything, so I decided to create my own "screenplay engine", just for personal use. (Found out later there are free ones).

It's called ScriptBench7, and it runs on your browser. You can also install it on your smartphone as a webapp (basically a website with its own icon and without the search bar at the top. Looks like an app, but it's still a website).

You can write your screenplay with automatic industry standard formating, you can get accurate and in-depth statistics on the story and the characters, you have a scratchpad with a canvas where you can add ideas, photos or draw, you can connect it to Google Drive and it automatically saves your progress so you can work from multiple devices, and much more.

It might not be like the big ones, but it's free for everybody to use.

I’ve written a 5-page short horror script titled "BEWARE", and I’m looking for some feedback or independent filmmakers who might want to collaborate and produce it.

Here is the quick setup:

Three city friends (our hero Sam, Chloe, and her friend Jack) ignore local warnings and drive up a cursed mountain during a heavy storm. A massive flash flood hits, trapping them on the muddy roads. But the rain isn't their biggest problem—the storm awakens a centuries-old vengeful spirit that starts hunting them down one by one. Their only way out? They discover that the spirit has one specific weakness: Iron.

Why it’s a fun and dynamic shoot:

• The Tone: It's not just straight horror. It has a good balance of creepy horror scenes, some lighthearted comedy moments between the friends, and a strong emotional core.

• Micro-Budget: Very few actors, a car, and a rainy/muddy outdoor location.

• The Climax: A gritty ending where Sam actually fights back using weapons and vehicles reinforced with iron.
