That's a silly statement because nobody verbalizes the initialism in isolation. People only say the letters when they're dictating a web address, and what they're dictating is the actual letters.

In real life people just say "the web" or "the internet."

In the earlier internet days, it was common to say the www when directing someone to a website. Both in advertisements and in personal discussion.

nobody even says them when they say a web address. back in the day when you had to type in the prefixes, you would say dub dub dub dot

Only because the pronunciation of W in English is the worst in the world. Should probably fix that instead of WWW.
