PoliticsPH Should the medical professionals who diagnose politicians be subject to independent review?

Post image

This isn’t a new issue in the Philippines. We’ve seen medical issues become relevant to the legal situations of politicians such as Estrada, Enrile, Revilla, Marcoleta, Legarda, and now Romualdez. Revilla, for example, was allowed medical checkups at St. Luke’s while detained, and questions were raised about the timing of his hospital visits.

Marcoleta’s case is another example where the court ordered an independent medical examination at PGH.

I’m not saying any of these diagnoses are fake. But when a diagnosis can affect detention, arrest, or court proceedings, shouldn’t the diagnosis issued by the treating hospital also be independently reviewed by an impartial medical authority?
If the diagnosis is legitimate, independent verification should only strengthen public confidence. Should this become a standard safeguard for politicians involved in legal proceedings?

Just to be clear: this is not an accusation against any politician, doctor, or hospital. I’m asking whether there should be stronger safeguards and independent verification whenever a medical diagnosis can affect a politician’s legal proceedings.

Reposting because some seem more concerned about AI photo than actually digesting the content of the post. LOL

Hmm tingin ko dapat marcoleta treatment gawin dito. I transfer sa pgh.

u/manicpixie-gurl 15h ago

Or ospital ng maynila kung pwede kaso under LGU ata yung OsMa.

u/Liesianthes 13h ago

This should be the norm going forward.

u/Cheese_Grater101 crackdown to trollfarms! 21h ago

u/Annual_Cellist_9074 21h ago

To be fair.. first day pa lang naman.

Ano susunod? Iron Lung?

u/DwigtTheIdiot 23h ago

don't f@&king give them an idea. these assholes will do everything to not get in jail!

u/Long_Web_5250 13h ago

tbh, if the choice is to jail them or subject them to an iron lung, I'd choose the latter.

u/Annual_Cellist_9074 14h ago

Grabe, may polio ba.. pwede iron mask na lang o kaya iron maiden para may thrill

u/Beneficial-Pin-8804 23h ago

Yes. This has been going on for far too long now. The medical field should be ashamed for providing crooks with easy loopholes

u/Menter33 13h ago

those loopholes are based on the ancient and historic practice of patient-doctor confidentiality.

independent reviews, especially when politically motivated, kinda violate that.

imagine if an innocent guy being hounded by a corrupt govt independently review his trusted doctor by govt-aligned medical people. that's probably a terrible scenario.

u/ThisIsNotTokyo 23h ago

May pa oxygen pa si kupal

u/Adventurous-Cat-7312 5h ago

Tass 99 naman nasa monitor hahaha

u/recklesswanderer__ 23h ago

Government officials should be REQUIRED to avail/utilize government services para naman grounded sila sa reality.

anyway, ang take ko dito ay kung naggagawa gawa lang sila ng sakit, dapat pati yung doktor na kasabwat is ma-revoke ang license at makulong. tignan lang natin kung magamit pa yang medicla excuses na yan to avoid arrests/conviction.

u/Praseodynium Bicol Boi 23h ago

honestly these politicians are so old, a competent doc can prolly make at least one diagnosis

u/horneddevil1995 23h ago

Lahat kayo ina nio may mga sakit. Pero pag nagnanakaw ang healthy healthy nio.

u/Mindless_Sundae2526 23h ago

Not related but kailan kaya lalabas yung arrest warrant sa non-bailable plunder case against Sara?

u/Leading-Ad-2987 23h ago

Huling alas yan, save the best for the last in case na talagang dehado na talaga sa botohan sa impeachment.

One step at a time ang galawan. 😂

u/TheGhostOfFalunGong 23h ago

u/ConsistentProcess415 21h ago

Pag na impeach na

u/Expert-Living-8294 15h ago

Paano kung tagilid ung impeachment nio? Paano yang mga yan. Sabay sabay dapat at same treatment. Try mo mag grocery magkano nalang mabibili mo. Kinakaen kasi kayo ng partisan ng pulitiko. For sure kakampink kayo. Wala din kayong pinagkaiba sa ddshit

u/ConsistentProcess415 14h ago

Huy sino nagsabi pro BBM ako? Anong pinagsasabi mo.

u/Expert-Living-8294 12h ago

Sabe mo pag naimpeach na... so ibig sabhin gusto mo focus lang kay duterte so loyalist ka or kakampwet. Either jan lang yan. Dapat lahat ng corrupt

u/ConsistentProcess415 11h ago

u/TheGreatTambay 23h ago

Maniniwala lang akong may sakit yan pag bukas namatay nayan.

u/spaghettiWithCheese 23h ago

Let the medical records be public. Lahat lahat. Lab results, doctor’s interpretation/analysis, etc. let it all be scrutinized publicly.

u/carlsharkPH 17h ago

This is far extreme from the original call for evaluating the quality of medical diagnosis. What will now prevent disclosure of lab results of innocent people if it is purportedly done for public scrutiny? Alam ko galit kayo sa loopholes etc. Huwag lang tayo sana mag regress to fascism in the quest for justice.

u/Menter33 13h ago

sometimes, the laws that protect the innocent also protect the guilty.

those laws are still good to have.

sabi nga, better that 10 guilty escape rather than 1 innocent be jailed.

u/spaghettiWithCheese 17h ago

They can always add special cases to the laws right?

I like the way you think just like a legislator. I'm just saying, it's a slippery slope. Too often laws are made complicated by special cases lobbied in by special interests.

Besides, even medical professionals in a mortality and morbidity review argue about the "correct" diagnosis and management... (as compared to standard or appropriate, lest I be misunderstood here)

Kapag pinublicize mo ba ang medical record, makakatulong ba sa ordinary person to determine kung correct nga ang diagnosis, or dadami ang vloggers na magbibigay ng opinion nila? Will this help the hapless medical professional just doing his/her job?

u/linux_n000by 23h ago

yes.. kahit private hospital sila, they need to show to the public yung mga nagawa nila tests at diagnosis for scrutiny

u/sirmiseria Blubberer 23h ago

Agree to have an independent review whether patient is fit to stand trial preferably outside influence of anyone from here. Would be costly though kasi gastos yun ng government. The question is sino? This would be complicated kasi nakadepend ang national interest.

u/StorageSelect7489 22h ago

Baka lokohan to, parang teleserye lang

u/Merrychristmoose 23h ago

That guy is a renowned and respected cardiologist. Dk if i can say the same politically.

u/Mindless_Sundae2526 23h ago

Everyone has a price. Either money or life

u/Merrychristmoose 23h ago

I agree. I know the doctor. Pretty questionable to see him there.

u/bj2m1625 23h ago

Cant say for sure if hes been threatened too. I mean the guy stole billions so he can pay less than a quarter to have people killed

u/Merrychristmoose 23h ago

I dont think so. I think he just really went to one of the best doctors in the country regardless if he threatened him or not.

u/AgentAlliteration 23h ago

Fact is that's been the hospital of choice of unsavory politicians. Older Duterte (same cardio IIRC) and SWOH. Jinggoy din siyempre pero he has ties to the area na talaga.

u/Merrychristmoose 23h ago

Its a cardinal sin to be confined at that hospital LMAO

u/istarbuxs 22h ago

u/scorpio_the_consul 23h ago

Iparequest na ng dalaw sa pari yan. Bigyan ng last rites. Kumpisal, anointing of the sick saka last communion.

u/flyve28 23h ago

u/accioaltaccount 13h ago edited 13h ago

Lalo na isang floor lang naman ang VIP floor, which is on the 7th floor.

Because we deserve the truth, milyon milyon tayong napapahamak dito. Alam kong may patient confidentiality and all, but come on, mabilis lang kumalat mga balita sa hospital LOL. kaya sana umabot man lang sa labas.

PS: former employee here, and nung si duterte ang naadmit noon during covid, kitang kita namin mga inoorder na gamot sakanya noon — sabay announce kaming lahat sa buong area kung anong gamot ang inorder sakanya - not only to mock and/or chismis but it also goes down to double checking and preparing of meds na lalabas.

u/Master_Mediocre 12h ago

Hmm, I think it’s fair to have sentiments like this, especially when politicians seem to be able to avoid detention or jail because of their medical conditions. It’s honestly kind of ironic how, all of a sudden, they seem to have a whole list of comorbidities the moment they get arrested. Like, seriously?

The healthcare sector has been one of the most underfunded and neglected sectors in the Philippines, yet it’s also one of the sectors that gets misused and taken advantage of. Healthcare should never be weaponized as a loophole to evade justice, but unfortunately, it seems like some corrupt officials have been able to do exactly that.

Sorry, not sorry. 😅

u/Specialist_Snow_7030 23h ago

u/malabomagisip 23h ago

We can only dream for now.

Gusto ko kapag may kaso default sa PGH but then aagawan pa sila yung mga ordinary na Pilipino.

u/Motor_Increase_8174 23h ago

u/Funny-Slip8415 23h ago

Dami pala nila sakit kawawa naman sila.

u/oracleofpamp 23h ago

Yes dapat naman talaga. They are being used as accessory ng mga kawatan e.

u/Total_Yoghurt8855 22h ago

Sana kahit mahirap pwedeng gawin yan no?

u/Upbeat_Finance9077 21h ago

Watching Martin Romualdez get arrested is like watching a movie you’ve seen over and over again. Emotional roller coaster, but memorize mo na yung plot🤣:

Never ending hearings ➡️ Warrant gets filed ➡️ Politician gets arrested (with matching headlines everywhere) ➡️ Politician gets admitted to the hospital. ➡️ Move on to next headline

After credit scene: 20 yrs later, their family member is still in politics. National level pa😉

u/ConsistentProcess415 21h ago

What is this guy's excuse this time?

u/Fragrant_Wishbone334 19h ago

Doubtful, when the person has connection to the owner of that institution. Anong magagawa kung empleyado ka din lang regardless of your title. For Romualdez this is the only thing that we can get. A picture of him lying down with an orange shirt placed on top of him. Dont expect that he will be imprisoned kahit sinong admin pa yan. They will bastardized all the cases to him para wala ng mafile for the next admin.

u/JobJohnsBA 18h ago

I think mga politicians na may kaso like this dipshit required na sa ward ng PGH dalhin

u/ILikeFluffyThings 18h ago

u/tebucio Frozen Tundra - Live life to the fullest. 13h ago

there should be a law for person who has corouptions case should only be treated on a public hospital just like anyone else. no special treatment.

u/wrxguyph 12h ago

Reveal the name of the Doctors so people would know who are the dirty doctors to avoid

u/Heaven_Snow 12h ago

Tapos makikita mo gumaling na as if miracle. 😂🙄

u/gio60607 12h ago

this recent scenario is suspect based on the sequence of events: jonvic claims that martin told him he will surrender. instead, martin went straight to cardinal santos. 2 hours later, jonvic goes to the hospital to deliver the warrant in martin's hospital bed.

ergo, hospital arrest.

u/bonerecon 8h ago

Every politician na may kinakaharap na kaso especially plunder should be admitted at PGH ward. I don’t care about their rights to choose their hospital.

Shame on these type of doctors na nababayaran ng mga corrupt politicians

u/humbleritcher 22h ago

Gloria... Ahhh Moment

u/Just_Economy_7341 22h ago

It is really concerning. We can all see the pattern and yet walang ginagawa yung mga lawmakers natin. Sadly, history tells us na gamit na gamit yung medical excuse and yet, nothing is happening.. Dapat kapag public official naka disclose yung sakit nila at nakatago but readily available to review if needed..

u/Friendcherisher 22h ago

It's best not to confuse correlation with causation. How would we know if the diagnosis affects the arrest? What if it is the other way around?

Being arrested is very stressful so I guess you know what stress does to you. Anything can be possible.

u/pppfffftttttzzzzzz 18h ago

Dalawa lang yan, nasa payroll or your head will roll

u/PickyPrincess11 17h ago

Not until I see his mugshot and wearing the orange uniform (hindi yung ipinatong lang) and detained in Payatas, this is just a shit show

u/HumbleWarthog6210 17h ago

u/SlowBrewMind 16h ago

I agree! I had the same thought when I saw this pic

u/kheldar52077 16h ago

Yes, removal of license, fine, and prison if found guilty para matigil na itong gloria drama copy cat show.

u/WeTheSummerKid birthright U.S. citizen 16h ago

Yes, because a politician in such an apparently vulnerable position can be manipulated or manipulate things the politician is normally not allowed to do or be done to them.

u/Simple-Cookie1906 15h ago

Even their condition is not fake, fuck them all. Kulang pa kung ano man yan sa ginawa nilang pagnanakaw

u/dslrjunky 15h ago

needs to be admitted to V Luna or something similar, Doctors need to be subpoena and scrutinized under oath by external auditors of their findings, if allowed by law.

u/Veeeerus 15h ago

dalhin din dpat to sa public hospital

u/Glad-Lingonberry-664 15h ago

Iba talaga ang entitled

u/Grouchy_Animal7939 15h ago

Sa office namin, kapag may health issue ka, sige pagaling ka at provide med cert if more than 2 days.

Then pagbalik mo, tuloy ang trabaho. If may escalation ka, hindi excuse yung nagkasakit ka to justify or cover yung misses/opportunities mo to get better.

u/rishijewel 15h ago

As a doctor I feel so frustrated sa ginagawa nila.

u/panchikoy 15h ago

Nasaan yung asawa nito? Sinecure na ang yaman? Walang hold departure?

u/kneepole 15h ago

Independent review by who? If the politician can pay for one doctor to misdiagnose, what makes you think they can't pay for two doctors?

u/HopefulComb2115 14h ago

u/Marvenwe 14h ago

artista talga mga politician hahah

u/betawings 14h ago

Daapt nga. Their needs to be a doctor for the prosecution that can check the suspect.

u/solidad29 14h ago

Sabi sa balita a PNP doctor is on the case din to evaluate yung health niya.

u/housewifewarrior 14h ago

Pera ang katapat

u/D3eeper 14h ago

sana talaga totoong may sakit yan pra magdusa muna sya sa lahat ng kagguhan nila sa pinas. especially u bbm and dutertes

u/littlebutetefish 13h ago

Wasn't it in a news article this morning that he was diagnosed with a panic attack?

u/readingbee1987 13h ago

They should first me named for the public to know

u/Zealousideal-Run5261 13h ago

there should really be a law regarding these issues, it has been weaponized for the longest time. MD's honors become stained all because they are accommodating existing problems ng mga politiko na kunwari in crisis bigla mga sakit nila. it has become a joke and a meme at this point na biglang maghospital arrest

u/Queldaralion 12h ago

the doctor (?) doing the jonvic pose haha

u/Artistic-Fondant3556 11h ago

u/Kekendall 11h ago

Ilang properties or ilang maleta kaya kapalit nyan? Hmmmmm

u/CommentatorsLegion69 10h ago

He has what they call KLEPTOSPIROSIS...

u/Calm_Poem_8079 10h ago

u/CollegeHumble526 5h ago

Personally I think Politicians should be treated special I these circumstances. If proven sila as criminals and biglang nagkasakit, ikulong pa din dapat sa kulungan with their medical shits 💩💩💩

lumang tugtugin nadin yang sakit sakitan nila eh

u/overthinkmind 23h ago

Pangit nman pag kaka higa o angat ng ulo mukhang mangangalay

u/Commercial_Farmer762 23h ago

Sana mamatay na yan. Nakapatong lang yung tshirt kakatawa

u/powketfullofsunshine 23h ago

E big boss yang si Romualdez baka may standby doctor sila imposibleng may sakit yan

u/wisteria_girl 22h ago

i laugh that she went all the way to SG for her thyroid cancer while most of our local hospitals are well experienced in treating it since thyroid issues are common among Filipinos (i’m a thyroid cancer patient)

she probably thought that throwing more & more money will lessen the pain and burden of cancer

u/Chemical-Quarter-276 13h ago

Lol sobrang daming maintenance nyan believe it or not, pinagkaiba lang eh may pambili sha mga normal na pilipino wala

u/jumpinbananas 11h ago

As much as I don’t buy the hospitalization card every politician plays when they’re in a bind, subjecting the doctors who treat them to further review will discourage doctors from seeing them in the first place kasi ma dehado lisensya nila. Moreover, it will just cause gipit politicians to seek treatment abroad where they’ll be beyond the jurisdiction of Philippine law enforcement authorities.

For me it’s immaterial how or where they’re detained. I think anyone who’s detained will do everything in their power to make their incarceration more bearable. Pati yung mga small time lang will use whatever resources they have to get better accommodations inside or get favors/protection from jail guards. Human nature lang yan, especially when the system has made it the norm.

While it may be satisfying to see corrupt politicians being jailed, what’s more important is a guilty verdict and for them to return the people’s future that they’ve stolen. Because a conviction is not something easily revised and puts on record their crimes for all to see.

u/Michael679089 4h ago

Just to be clear: this is not an accusation against any politician, doctor, or hospital.

From the way you sounded the post, it sounds like your accusing that the doctor who diagnosed him is faking it. But made it sound scientific so no one there can understand it.

u/darwin_presenter_xx 15h ago

lala ng cancel culture, lati health professionals pagdududahan basta against sa political bias nila.. these doctors are already risking thier license for involving themselves sa politics if they give wrong diagnosis or was caught doing unethical things.. gusto nyo pa independent review? andmi.nang problema ng bansa mag aaksaya pa kayo ng tax at oras ng politicians AND doctors to satisfy your bias and cancel culture?

u/AdObjective6764 6m ago

Call out hospitals who coddle these politicians, sama na rin ang APs nila para maramdaman nila na binabantayan mga galaw nila…
