Meme needing explanation Pedir Peter???

Lois here. It's a longstanding piece of inherited wisdom that men are attracted to women who remind them of their mothers. The girl in the tweet has just realized she's very similar to her boyfriend's mom, because the boyfriend picked her because of her similarity to his mom.
Peter is an exception to this rule. Thank god, his mom was a nutjob. Not like me.

What does it mean if my wife is like the exact opposite of my mom? I get along great with both, btw.

mother complex.
But most times if you had a good Mother/Father you are just looking for a person that is similar because you think of your mother/fathers traits as "good mother/father traits"
like you had a BMW and it was a nice car and nothing breaks, so you looking again for a BMW, there are literall people that had 5 times the same car type

Also everyone is weird in their own ways. When you meet people who are weird in the ways your parents were, you are comfortable with that kind of weird. You know how to interact with it and manage it etc.

Theres a lot of people who hold a belief that ultimately people look for their parents in who they choose as partners. Like not just Freudian weirdos, its bizarrely pervasive amongst seemingly regular people as well.
The joke is she is realizing her boyfriend is one of those people, but is not particularly upset, just acknowledging of the phenomena.

In what world is this supposed to be a bad thing? Birds do the same thing. We imprint an image of what people are supposed to look like from an early age that informs what we are attracted to. This isn't "wanting to sleep with your mother".
•
u/cachesummer4 13h ago
we are often specifically attracted to people very different from what we know as genetic diversity stregnthens resistance to various illness and protects heavily against the numerous health issue of multi generational incest or single community inbreeding.
We also arent birds

u/TyH621 13h ago
That’s not necessarily the case with personality traits and the like though. People who think fondly of their parents naturally associate those personality traits with those of a good partner. Nothing creepy about it, it’s just learning. We aren’t born into the world with knowledge of what personality traits we want in a partner
•
u/Open-Weather2627 13h ago
It isn't. If you like your parents, and they are cool people, it is nice to find someone like that. If you dislike your parents, you search for someone different.

It’s not mommy issues, it’s something that was practically promoted for both men and women. Just like fathers want to instill certain qualities and expectations that a daughter should look for and require in man, i.e. hardworking, confident, motivated etc, mothers tend to do the same for sons, instilling in them a sense of what is expected and required for a woman, i.e. supportive, nurturing, firm in their boundaries etc. everyone saying “mommy issues” is either severely misinterpreting the sentiment, has perversions of incestuous nature, or just has shit parents who didn’t have any decent qualities for the kids to recognize.

Her bf wants to be in a relationship with someone like his mother, which weirds her out a bit
•
u/Restoriust 12h ago
It’s a myth. There’s a myth about boys being attracted to people that remind them of their mom and girls are attracted to people that remind them of their dad.
It’s categorically bullshit

Hi, Quagmire here. ALL RIGHT! I will explain. The lady in the post wonders why she is getting along with her boyfriends's mom. I do also get along with moms. Giggity. Anyway, it is known that men often pick women who resemble their mothers personality wise and lookswise. I still remember when Chris had a girlfriend who looked like Lois. Famous man known as Oedipus wrote a lot about the Oedipussy. Giggity giggity.
Fuck Brian Griffing by the way. And I mean that non sexually
