Nah, that's an ice cold take. Germans were forced to watch their atrocities after the war ended and vowed never again. Even now their kids grow up watching what Adolf did, and they keep in it that way. The Japanese went denial for almost half a century, but kept trying to better themselves.
More of a semantic question than anything, how do you better yourself while being in denial? Seems counterproductive and would lead to future issues, or is that your point?
You can regret an action and still deeply desire no one find out about it. This you commit to never doing it again but you also deny it ever having happened. I might argue this is one of the more common ways people grow - avoid further mistakes but don’t admit to them.
