Dont try to heat the affected tissue too fast you want water just above human body temp to slowly bring it to the proper temp otherwise you damage the tissue even more than it already is. Was this discovered in other places and put into practice before the horrors of unit 731? Yes it was but they did some very thorough note taking while they mutilated people so credit to them I guess.
