But how is this reason that the remake needs to be made? It's reasonable to expect changes from the source material and I doubt the remake will have everything be 1 to 1 either.
And the thing is, it's true that the first 2 movies are close to the books, but book 3 onwards are far too big and those books are the reason for re-adaptation.
Half-Blood Prince reduced what was multiple chapters and easily ~100 pages of Tom Riddles/Voldemorts backstory into like 5 minutes of flashbacks in the film. Those more a major part of that book and the way the narrative is told, switching between the current time with Harry and the gang and then a following chapter it being a flashback. Basically all gone.
And DH did the same thing with chapters upon chapters of diving into Dumbledores biography and his character. Barely even acknowledged in the movie despite being a huge part of the book that had a huge effect on Harry wondering why Dumbledore seemingly left him completely in the dark
I mean, it doesn't have to explain who they are with words the way a book does because it's a movie. It's perfectly clear who the marauders are if you're actively paying attention while you watch from the characters' being referenced by their marauder names, the way Snape and Sirius react to the map, their animagus forms matching the symbolism of their names, and probably other things I'm forgetting. The fact that they don't "explain" it in dialogue is good filmmaking. "Show don't tell", "trust your audience", etc. etc.
