Early morning runners

Yesterday, I saw three guys in their 30s or early 40s running early in the morning here in Peshawar. I almost walk daily and see many people walking but the sight of these on their run made my day.

Saw an Instagram post about a Peshawar Running Club which is not active yet and a huge gym is also opening soon (don't know the location yet). Glad to see Peshawar getting more active.

Would love to join a walking or a running club.

I wish I could run too. I was schooled in Murree till 10th grade and we used to have morning run around pindi point roughly 3kms.

Shifting to Peshawar felt like going into cage. Even within the parks I cannot run as a woman. Fucking suffocating seeing myself go from athletic to trying to find ways to stay active.

Damn, why are we all Peshawar movers assembling here. I moved to Peshawar because of parents for my Olevels. Those 3 years were crazy. I moved from cycling 3 hours every day and cycling the whole day on weekends to like bumming in my room all day. I think that’s when I also went crazy and never recovered from it.

It makes SUCH A HUGE difference when you see it as one big picture.

A cousin of mine born and bred in UK was brought here when their family moved back. It was against her will because she had spend 25 years in an environment where a walk to cafe was norm. She fell into depression and anxiety because of strict clothing rules and not to mention zero fun activities. Died about in 3 years of moving back.

This is so impactful because when I moved back I noticed that the pattern of “having fun” here almost always involved a “food” activity. No proper place to just gather and discuss arts or participate in activities or atleast anything for entertainment.

But where do all these issues stem out from? Have you thought about that?

As a guy, clothing, going out for a walk wearing whatever, and having some fun activities wasn’t a problem, yet it was suffocating. It’s nothing actually physically wrong with Peshawar, it’s the mentality of the people, the relatives, them being nosy, ppl moving from small towns and villages to the city but not changing the way they thing, these are the real issues that effect us.

Even as a guy I was affected by this so I can’t even imagine how it would be for a woman. And the real issue is, nothing has changed in the last 15-16 years. I now come once in a while, and recently spent 2 years straight as well, but ppl and the mentality has gone worse over the years. I hear them justifying tiktokers being murdered so I mean you can’t expect anything from them.

And ironically I have 3 different stories from my siblings who studied in 3 different institutions. All with similar pattern. The girl brought up abroad, and suddenly the father felt he needed his daughters to learn about culture and fled them back to Peshawar and enrolled them in institutions against their will. Safe to say, all while they were here they wasted their time trying to get back or atleast escape their parents and this city.

Peshawar IS comprised of such families so it is a Peshawar problem, the city is comparatively conservative than others and people who on choice leave the city at young, have kids abroad and then choose to come back only when their kids are older is certainly a collective community issue.

I mean but coning back is that family’s issue? Yes Peshawar is conservative but no one is forcing those people to come back hence it’s a family issue. Literally any part of pakistan is conservative depending on family structure and I’ve seen plenty of Peshawari people doing a lot of stuff. it’s a family issue more so bevause if they limit you then obviously you cant do stuff

The definition of ladies park is not a closed space where there are no spectators. Two ladies park that I know in Hayatabad have a track that follows along side the boundary wall which is only the height of an avg door.

That being said, the closest park to me is Garrison, it is comparatively better for the walk but still not for jog or run. Tracksuit is also not appropriate attire since obviously the laymen consider it alien wear. All I am left with is running a treadmill at a gym which I dread because I love love jogging through tje freshness of trees and greens.

If you’re near garrison, then you’re also near army stadium. It was so niceeeeee 2 years back when I just moved to Peshawar they had opened it after years of closure. Probably no one knew about it hence no rush. It was soooooo quiet. Like not better than F9 park Isb but I liked it. now back to its old state.

Not near garrison, I am more on the mathra side of warsak road so its a 10 minutes drive to the park. They upgraded the parking lot and now its comparatively more crowded than before. Unfortunately they do not keep up with the upgrades and the park is somewhat in its place like before

10mins in Peshawar is honestly like alootttttt. Rikshaws and stupid drivers drive you crazy. I’m 4-5mins drive from garrison but it would drive me mad. I have been on warsak road but don’t know where mathra is. But I’m checking google maps and would you believe it, I can’t believe it, there’s a huge swimming pool and a huge park on warsak road.

Yes, there will be objections, advices and bad looks not to forget misbehaviour/disrespect for whatever reason. If the shorts are a bit too short (above knees), that can put you in bigger problems.

Yes, you need proper clothes for running. You can run in shalwar kameez if you want but it is not very practical.

I have been running and walking early morning for the past 4 years plus. In high summers I shift to late night runs however in normal weather it's in the morning.
