Hey all! I'm looking to get Morrowind running on my Galaxy S26 Ultra with the I Heart Vanilla: Director's Cut modlist, and I'm trying to figure out the best workflow before I start downloading a million things wrongly.
My setup:
- Galaxy S26 Ultra
- Snapdragon + Android 16
- Plenty of storage(; I'd happily dedicate 20+ GB if needed)
- 8BitDo SN30 Pro controller
- (May eventually upgrade to an 8BitDo Pro 3)
- Steam copy of Morrowind (English goty)
- Steam Deck
- MX Linux 23 laptop
- Access to a Windows PC through my roommate (Steam Family, so I wouldn't need to buy another copy)
My modding experience:
- I've extensively modded Fallout 3/NV/4, Oblivion, and Skyrim.
- I've never modded Morrowind.
- I've never set up a modded Bethesda game on Android.
What I want:
- OpenMW 0.51
- CaveBros fork for Android/controller support
- I Heart Vanilla: Director's Cut modlist, specifically
- Ideally good controller support
- Shaders? Worth it?
What I'm trying to figure out:
What's the recommended PC -> Android workflow for this setup?
My assumption is that the easiest route would be something like:
- Install Morrowind/OpenMW on Windows
- Use the Modding OpenMW tools to install/configure IHV:DC
- Make sure everything works on Windows
- Transfer the resulting mod files/configuration to the S26 Ultra
- Set everything up in CaveBros/OpenMW
- Profit?
But I don't know enough about OpenMW's architecture to know whether that actually works, or whether there are Android-specific things I need to do differently.
A few specific questions:
- Should I build the entire IHV:DC setup on Windows, Linux, or does it not matter?
- Is there a recommended way to transfer an already-configured OpenMW modlist from PC to Android?
- Are there particular files/configs that shouldn't be transferred and need to be generated on Android?
- Should I be using the normal OpenMW 0.51 release alongside CaveBros, or does CaveBros have its own version/build I should target?
- Does IHV:DC currently play nicely with CaveBros/Android, or are there mods in the list that need to be omitted/replaced?
- Is there anything about 0.51 vs 0.50 that I need to be particularly aware of when doing this?
- And if shaders are worth adding, is there a sensible Android-friendly option, or should I leave that rabbit hole alone for now?
Basically: if you were starting from my exact position, what would your workflow be?
I'm perfectly happy doing all the fiddly mod installation/configuration bits on the Windows PC and then copying the finished setup to my phone. I just don't want to follow a PC guide blindly and discover halfway through that I've built something that can't be transferred to Android, y'know?
