I've noticed a huge uptick in selfishness in recent years. People talk about Boomers being selfish, but put a gen Xer, millenial or genz or alpha in those times and they'd make all the same decisions. I pretty much stopped talking to so many people because all people want to talk about is themselves constantly.
They can talk about their work schedule, their favorite pokemon, their feelings and everything for hours. But when it comes to you talking about yourself? Couldn't care less and want to leave the conversation soon as they can. Or move on to someone else so they can talk about themeselves or drama.
"Oh I don't know what that is *silence*" when you try to mention like a movie or show or anything you've seen or done.
Of course when they say they saw movie and you ask them about it, what they liked about it, if they've seen things similar to it and, you know, ask them questions to show your engaged, they can't even be assed to ask for further details
Like, mother fucker you can ask questions like I have and you saw me do. But I guess it's not about them so who cares right?
I once had a work collegue, who I never once talked to before at all, sit down right next to me and just start spilling his life story when I sat down for lunch. His journey from Kenya, him getting his law degree, his multiple surgeries, everything and again, all I did was sit down for lunch, I didn't even ask him, he just walked up to me.
He didn't even ask me for my name until he had to leave. I must have "dumping grounds" written on my face somewhere this happens so often.
