I've got to look these up. I have one leg that's shorter than the other, adding to my chronic back and hip pain. I've tried inserts, but they slip and slide too much; these might be just the thing.

That's the individual symptom, not the root condition. Sort of like if you have a fever, aches, and fatigue, you might have the flu. If you have scoliosis, it may result from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (although it may not). So you're correct, but it's not an "either/or," it's a "yes, and"
Scoliosis is a sideways S-curve. There’s also lordosis which curves forward at the bottom near the hips, and kyphosis (what I have) that curves forward at the top of the spine, starting just below the shoulder blades. I always describe it as a lowercase r-curve.
There's also lordosis, which is what I have! Instead of curving sideways like scoliosis, it sways in towards my stomach. I got my spine fused at L5S1 and it was the best decision I ever made.

Dang TWINS! 'cept my L5-S1 has a disc replacement. Glad the fusion worked for you tho, I was always told "run if they say 'fusion'" as I've only heard negative anecdotes, so it's nice to hear that it did good things for someone!

Funny you should ask, since I started hrt, including a testosterone blocker, in June. The doctor who prescribes the meds also diagnosed my EDS, and has it herself, so I'm hoping she took that into account.
If you ever need a hip replacement, they can even out the length then.
You will be very drugged up the first time they make you walk and you might panic thinking they made the leg too long, it may feel like you are wearing a high heel on one foot, that they fixed you the wrong way. You may even need to be sedated you freak out so much.
Hip replacement at 23. Had a degenerative leg disease that took too long to diagnose, allowing it to progress to where the non surgical treatments wouldn’t work. It took 13 months to diagnose. I was a tiny white girl and it usually presents in overweight white boys, first hip surgery was at 7.

Leg length discrepancy with possible scoliosis (abnormal spine curvature to a certain degree) does lead to asymmetric muscle compensations and resulting pains. It does call for "heel lift" for the short leg as part of the treatment at the mild-moderate stages. Would recommend seeing a doctor (or does podiatry also do this? idk I'm just an osteopathic medical student in the US) to see what options would help you with your pains.
My arch support inserts slid a bunch too, I used some double sided masking frogtape that I had laying around and they actually stopped sliding nearly as much
In 91 I had a bad motorcycle accident that F'd up my back but not bad enough for surgery. After about 3 years I got locked in the stooped position, had X-rays and found out I fractured part of a disc. It also caused my hips to go out of wack so one side is lower than the other. I wish I had known about these back then. It could have limited the back pain I've had over the years by keeping my hips straight/aligned. Now my body just tilts a bit from the base of my back
To help myself with this, I've invested into better shoes. There's services that will take a pair of shoes and extend the midsole to whatever length you need to have an even gait. A bit pricey but lasts for as long as the shoes do. And no need to wear anything uncomfortable.
I needed an insert for the same issue, which included scoliosis, but mine also sucked to use. I go to the chiropractor a lot and also get massages, which help as the pain starts to add up and compound, but the only long-term real reduction in issues was due to weightlifting and stretching. Deadlifts in particular have made my back significantly more resilient to the problems associated with the underlying cause
One of my partners has the same issue. Inserts drove him nuts so he started just paying to have cobblers modify his shoes. Cobblers at most shoe repair places can do it.
Get separate insoles, cut to your shoe's size, attach the inserts via double-sided tape. Works well and you can swap them between different shoes easily.
I have the same. Orthopedic inserts is the way to go. Get them tailored to you. It's so fucking worth it. I didn't know I had fucked up calfs until my ortho told me that they were and explained how his inserts would fix that. In addition to back pain +++
The best and safest thing to do is get custom ones from the doctor. If you can, do it this way; it's your spinal health and it's worth it to prioritize it.
Shoe stores sell soft lifts that adhere to the inside of your shoe. You can peel off layers to get the height you need to level your hips. They don’t slip around at all in my experience.
I have these and they’re to stop blisters, not add height. They’re literally just a stretchy gel feeling material, and only a couple of mm thick. Dudes either a troll or a fool
Nah, totally different from high heels. High heels require you to be able to balance yourself on the thinner heels and makes a smaller portion of your foot bare your body weight.
Height boosters like these are basically just thick Dr Scholls inserts. Your entire foot still supports your weight and there’s no struggle to balance on a thinner heel. And most of these are made out of foam or gel, so they’re pretty comfortable. The only adjustment it takes when wearing these is the brief “oh shit I’m taller” feeling, then you pretty much completely forget you’re wearing them.
Source: I’m a short dude (5’5”), and have worn different variations of these a few times over the years when my height insecurity was worse and didn’t want to feel or look so short in a specific situation.
Brother do you have a link to the ones you use? I've looked into these before too, but they all had awful reviews. I'm a guy who lost and inch after being hit by a bus, and miss it more than I thought now that I'm recovering and trying to date again
It just makes me feel more attractive. Why do I wear make up? Why do I cut my hair? Why do I wear nice clothes? They all make me feel good about myself and make me feel like I look good. I was a very average height, so that 1 inch was pretty 'competitive' for a lack of a better word. I like being tall and I'm a young man. Not to mention dating is pretty hard post covid. It's the each isn't even a lie, I just wanna be how I was like before the accident.
When you're being tripped by an office bully and your shoes are flying off...the horseshit excuse about your medical foot support just isn't going to cut the mustard.
