Other Question Anyone here go through the meteorology program?
My son has been narrowing down various colleges for meteorology / atmospheric science programs. And NIU came up on several lists of being a solid school for their program. However I wanted to see if I could get some personal insight on it, as you know how "lists" are.
Also might as well as about student dorms, as we live in Missouri and he for sure would have to stay on campus. He also has autism, so I wasn't sure how the room mate situation worked, or if they had solo dorms.

I didn't graduate in the major, but prof Walker Ashley was my favorite professor and favorite class in the for years I was there.

I have a friend who did her undergrad and is now in the masters program, both in Meteorology. She loves it! Patterson would be the best dorms for him. Each student has their own room, and they share a bathroom with one other student.

I looked that up after you mentioned it. I think that would be best for him, as he is fairly reserved and wouldn't do well with any overly "enthusiastic" roommate. His autism makes him quirky too.

Incredible program. Great opportunities to do applied work and interact with world class faculty.

NIU Professor Victor Gensini is highly recognized in the field of meteorology / atmospheric science program. I would recommend that your son and family visit campus and see how your son feels about the area and program. He can also work with the Disability Resource Center to see if what accomadations he can use based on his needs. Some links below -
