Hello Alumni! I'm a freshman this year at NIU, and Lincoln Hall has really caught my eye. Any alumni who has time, could you give me a bit more info?

How was it living there?
What made it close?
Anything that was unique to Lincoln Hall?
What were the "hazardous conditions" that caused its closure?

Hey! My name is Molly, and I am a freshman studying early childhood education. I am really struggling to make friends that i can actually talk to and hang around with here and there.

I know this may strongly narrow down the search on reddit, but I am looking for other women to hang out with. I am really struggling to find girls that I can get along with and vibe with because it feels like everyone already has their groups!

I do spend a lot of time with my bf, and a lot of time doing work and going to the gym. I am trying out for the club softball team, so that will begin to take up time as well. I am just looking for someone/some people to connect with without having a constant demand for spending time, going out, etc. I really want to make new friends who are fine with calm, lowkey hangouts that dont involve partying or anything crazy.

So here’s a fun NIU Housing story I didn’t expect to deal with this semester.

I have a documented allergy to a specific animal. When room assignments came out, Housing placed me with someone who has an ESA of that exact animal. They had actually requested a single and got denied, and because my original roommate couldn’t attend this semester, I got reassigned… straight into that room.

Thankfully, Housing already swapped me out, so I’m good now. But I learned something wild in the process: NIU Housing isn’t required to disclose that your roommate may have an animal, even if you have a medical allergy. You can literally show up on move‑in day and find out the hard way.

I’m not blaming my roommate at all. They didn’t choose this either. It just feels like Housing created a conflict between two accommodations and left both of us scrambling. Which I'm sure accidents happen but wow.

Has anyone else dealt with something like this here?

Edit: I did also choose this room once housing opened dorm options. So, it was kind of unfair that I had to move when I was already moved in but at least I got a room swap. Similarly, I did try to reach out ahead of time to know my new roommate but no response.

Former student here. I am trying to get my credits transferred to an international university right now. In order to do that, I need the syllabus of English 103 and mainly English 203. I am aware that every section, every year and every teacher has different syllabi, but several random syllabi of these courses from the past years would help a lot.

Hello everyone, Ive been thinking of getting an e bike to commute to campus and explore the area. Would I get in trouble for riding a bike like this and will people steal It. I do see tons of students riding e scooters but Im not the scooter type a guy.

Thanks for showing up to the involvment fair only to leave the walkway covered in trash! Plastic water bottles, metal water bottles, ice pop cozies, popsicle sleeves, plates, just TRASH everywhere. What a wonderful group of people! Really involved in everything but cleaning up.

Are there any places near by campus that don't ID at all for buying drinks at like a liquor store or gas station or something? I look young so it's gotta be easy can't be like a 50/50 chance. I transferred to NIU at my old college there was a go to place so that's why I ask.

This will be a bit of a sadder post.

When I was attending NIU, I “followed” a NIU graduate on Tumblr. He had a theater arts degree and for a time he was working professionally in his field. However, his cancer either came back or developed cancer. I know he died at some point before 2016. I think I followed his account back in like 2012? Or 2013? But I don’t remember when he stopped posting. The only way I found out he died is because one of his friends posted something about the anniversary of his death on Instagram.

For the life of me though, I can’t remember his name and my tumblr has been deactivated for over 10 years.

Does anyone remember who this was? I loved his tumblr and his aesthetic. I didn’t know him personally, only interacted with him a handful of times on Tumblr, but I still feel really sad for him and his family. He seemed like someone I would be friends with when I attended NIU.

i’m a transfer student from elgin community college and this is my first semester at NIU ever. i recently got into vampire: the masquerade and other world of darkness ttrpgs and i was wondering if anyone else is also into WoD? i'm looking to branch out and make friends, i'm having a hard time adjusting and i was hoping other people with the same interests as me would be around.

i'm also wondering if there is like a ttrpg club or some sort of gaming club here at NIU? if so, please let me know any information regarding clubs and organizations like that, so i can see about attending the meetings.

Okay so I just saw another post on here talking about them not receiving their MAP grant due to the FASFA priority deadline, which I wasn’t aware of until now, because I in the hospital from April 2- June 13th, and I don’t see my MAP grant on my account, will I not receive a MAP grant at all or how long will I most likely be on the wait list? I literally cannot afford to go here without that map grant!

I'm in my late 20s and just transferred to NIU after moving to the state about a month ago. So I'm new to the school and to Illinois... I'm struggling to find connections! Any tips?

I started school again 23M to finish my bachelors and one thing I am finding hard at NIU is meeting new people/making friends. I am an extrovert I talk to hella people in my class and even when I am walking around campus but for some reason guys seem to have no interest. I have already been out on coffee dates with a different girl everyday since I started last week but no guys wanna hangout. I hit the gym everyday and guy seem to be working out by themselves. Am I too old for school or what? Is there no parties happening around here? I was at UIC and we always had parties going on every weekend it was a blast. NIU seems boring why?

so i put up some decorations in my dorm and i recently decided to move it around, and when taking it off, i ripped so much paint off the wall😭. i really do not have the money to pay for a fee at the end of the school year and i was wondering if anyone knows the color of the paint for the walls so i could just paint over it or if anyone had any suggestions.
