Housing and Apartments warning/psa for students looking for off-campus apartments

hey!! just wanted to put out a psa for students who are looking for off campus apartments, possibly even their first apartment. my partner and i were really excited about suburban apartments and we were fixed to move in today, august 18th. we got our unit assignment and everything a bit over a week ago and we were under the impression that we would sign the lease before sending the security deposit. they instead wanted us to send our deposit before even SEEING the lease and on top of that, pay through a service at walmart. this is so incredibly sketchy and many other people who have rented before agreed and advised us to not send any money at all. please do not rent from this place without seeing the lease, and that goes for every other apartment you may rent at!!!

I would suggest HPI my roommate and i thought they were pretty great. They even helped us out when we had a crazy roommate who didnt pay her last months rent
