Teams Meeting Template not applying auto-transcription settings

Hi everyone,

I am a teams admin, looking to enable auto transcription for meetings.

I'm testing Teams meeting templates and running into an issue.

I created a meeting template with:

• Record and transcribe automatically = Transcribe only
• Allow Copilot = During and after the meeting

The template is assigned to my account, and my Teams Meeting Policy has:

• Recording = On
• Transcription = On
• Copilot = On with saved transcript required

However, when I create a new meeting and check Meeting Options, the setting "Record and transcribe automatically" is still set to Off. When I join the meeting and open Copilot, I get the message:

So it looks like the template settings are not being applied to the meeting.

Has anyone seen this before? Are there additional policy settings required for meeting templates to automatically apply recording/transcription settings, or is there a known delay/issue with template assignment?

Based on what you've shared, your recording, transcription, and Copilot policies look aligned. 

Here are a few other things to consider in your testing: 

• Whether the organizer has a Teams Premium license. 
• Whether you're testing with a newly created meeting after the template was assigned. 
• Whether the template has had time to propagate if it was recently created or updated. 

The template should apply the transcription setting automatically, but seeing "Record and transcribe automatically" remain 'Off' suggests the template may not be fully applying.
