Resume The knowledge bar of an average candidate is in hell after AI slop

Upvotes

Context: I am 25 passout, not a lot of experience. Probably the AI slop batch myself. But have been working for an American startup. Our team is pretty lean which led to me taking a few interviews so early in my career.

I took an interview today for the position of an AI Engineer (New Grad). The candidate was from USA from a reputed college, CS + Math major a 2026 graduate. 4 internships on her resume with deep tech words being highlighted. Good gpa in her uni too. But she does not know what an HTTP call is????

I don't want to be mean but I assumed this is the bare minimum every new grad should know. It started with her not being able to answer basic questions about her internships. She wasn't aware of rag or vector databases at all. When asked about fine tuning (because it was mentioned in her resume) she told me she suggested her team to shift from an LSTM model to XGBoost. And that is what she means by fine-tuning. I was so confused. I thought maybe I am making it hard so went to CS basic on what is TCP UDP just to check theory - no idea what these are. What is the difference between a HTTP call and a gRPC call - No clue what either of them are. I asked on how would she connect frontend and backend then, she says that's what I am eager to learn. Lastly I asked what databases do you have experience with. No idea at all. What dbs did your intern companies use? I don't know if they used any. I said thank you and cut the call. She had 4 mid to good looking interns despite all of this.

I am pretty sure it wasn't this bad when I was fresh out of college, I was clueless (I still am) but not this much. The sad part is this is the 3rd new grad interview I have taken in the past month, all of them were along the same lines. I know there are still people who are working hard and know their shit but I am just confused after today's interview.

Resume Final-year ML student here — applied everywhere, zero callbacks. What am I doing wrong?

I’m in my final year and I’m honestly exhausted. I’ve been applying to ML/DS internships for a long time now—LinkedIn, company sites, job portals, referrals—pretty much everywhere. Most of the time there’s no response, and when there is, it’s just another rejection. I’m not even getting shortlisted to the next round.

I’ve tried to do the right things: learning, building projects, improving my resume. But nothing seems to work, and it’s really discouraging. Seeing others move ahead while I’m stuck here makes it worse. Final year pressure, career anxiety, and constant rejection are just piling up.

I’m not giving up, but right now I feel lost and could really use some guidance from anyone who’s been through this or knows what actually helps.

Heres my resume:

Resume What am I doing wrong as a beginner trying to get into ML?

Post image
Upvotes

I've recently finished my final exams for my Computer Science degree and I'm currently waiting for my Honors classification.

I'm trying to get my first ML internship/junior role, but I'm having a hard time getting past the application stage. A lot of applications either get rejected or I just never hear back.

So I decided to stop guessing and actually ask people who have experience hiring or working in ML.

I've attached my current CV.

I'd really appreciate some honest feedback on it, especially from people who have hired ML interns/junior engineers or have gone through the process themselves.

I'm especially interested in feedback from people who were once in the same position trying to get their first ML opportunity with no professional ML experience.

Please don't worry about being harsh. I'd much rather hear "this is bad because X" than generic "looks good, keep applying."

I've removed my personal contact information from the CV for privacy.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to look through it.

Hey everyone! I'm a 2026 graduate currently doing a remote internship and actively looking for opportunities in the AI/ML domain.

I'd really appreciate some brutally honest feedback on my resume, what works, what doesn't, and what I should improve to make it stronger for AI/ML roles.

Also, if you know of any internships or full-time opportunities that might be a good fit, I'd love to connect. Thanks!

Resume My team is urgently looking for AI Engineers (GenAI/RAG/LangGraph) — I can provide internal referrals!

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

My team is urgently hiring Associate and Senior Associate AI Engineers, and I’m looking to refer some strong candidates directly to our hiring manager.

We are heavily focused on our AI adoption journey, specifically building out ML, NLP, GenAI, LLMs, and agentic AI systems. This is a highly hands-on role. We need builders who can take AI from experimentation to production, integrating it across internal platforms and client-facing products.

Our Core Stack & Focus Areas:

• Building with LLMs: Developing RAG, summarization, extraction, and reasoning pipelines into enterprise platforms.

• Agentic AI: Building with LLMs, LangChain, LangGraph, and other agentic frameworks.

• Data & Orchestration: Handling structured/unstructured data, text processing, embeddings, vector retrieval, prompt engineering, and LLM evaluation/monitoring.

How to get a referral:

If you have hands-on experience getting these specific technologies into production, I'd love to help you bypass the resume black hole.

Please DM me your resume or LinkedIn profile, along with a quick 2-3 sentences highlighting your experience with LangChain/LangGraph or taking GenAI apps to production. If it looks like a good match, I'll submit you into our referral system!

Resume How can a fresher land a remote Machine Learning internship in 2026?

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm a final-year Computer Science student from Nepal, and I want to break into Machine Learning as a career. My goal is to land a remote ML internship, but I'm struggling to understand what companies actually expect from freshers.

So far i've:

  • Learnt core intuition and math on machine learning algorithms.
  • Knows about data cleaning,feature engineering, EDA,model training,evaluation.
  • Learnt about ensemble, regularizations and other important machine learning topics.
  • Built one project on real dataset on uk accident severity prediction.
  • Starting deep learning (CNN,LSTM,RNN) and others.

The problem are:

  • Firstly i dont see any jobs or posts regarding machine learning intern or entry level jobs locally.

I often see requirements like:

  • 2+ years of experience
  • Research experience
  • Multiple deployed ML projects
  • Cloud/MLOps knowledge
  • Strong competitive programming background

As someone starting out, it feels difficult to know what I should prioritize.

I'd really appreciate advice from people who have actually landed remote ML internships or hired interns.

I'd also appreciate any resume or portfolio tips, common mistakes to avoid, or resources that helped you get your first opportunity.

Thanks in advance!

Resume Need guidance to crack an ML internship – what should I focus on next?

Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I’m currently trying to land a Machine Learning internship and would really appreciate some guidance from people who have been through the process.

So far, I’ve completed:
Supervised Learning
Unsupervised Learning
Built a few ML projects using scikit-learn
Learned data preprocessing, feature engineering, model evaluation, and hyperparameter tuning.

I’m now starting Deep Learning (TensorFlow/PyTorch).
My goal is to become internship-ready as soon as possible, but I’m confused about what I should prioritize.
Some questions I have:

What skills do companies actually expect from ML interns?

Should I focus more on Deep Learning, MLOps, SQL, DSA, or backend development?

What kind of projects stand out on a resume?

What mistakes should I avoid while preparing?

What helped you get your first internship?

I’d also appreciate any resume tips, GitHub portfolio advice, interview preparation strategies, or resources that you found genuinely helpful.

Thanks in advance! Any advice from people working in ML/AI or who recently cracked internships would mean a lot.
