I built an AI/ML job scraper that tracks 150+ companies — here's what I learned

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I got tired of checking 50+ career pages daily to find AI/ML job openings, so I built a scraper that tracks 150+ companies in one run.

The problem:

Every AI company posts jobs on their own career page. Some use Greenhouse, some use Lever, some have custom boards. If you're job hunting or doing market research, you're checking 50+ tabs daily.

What I built:

- Scrapes Greenhouse, Lever, RemoteOK, WeWorkRemotely, and YC in parallel

- Extracts skills, frameworks, salary, experience level, remote status

- Change detection tracks new/removed/updated jobs between runs

- Webhook alerts for Slack/Discord when matching jobs appear

- Optional AI enrichment via Groq (free tier)

Tech stack:

- TypeScript, runs on Apify platform

- Greenhouse/Lever APIs (no HTML scraping)

- Keyword-based classifier handles 60-80% of jobs without LLM

- State persisted in KV store for change detection

What I found interesting:

- 62% of AI jobs are remote

- Median salary: $185k

- PyTorch mentioned 2x more than TensorFlow

- Top hirers: OpenAI (45), Anthropic (32), Google (28)

Lessons learned:

  1. Greenhouse and Lever have public APIs — most companies expose jobs via JSON endpoints. No scraping HTML needed.

  2. Keyword classification is underrated — a simple keyword matcher handles most jobs. LLMs are only needed for ambiguous cases.

  3. Change detection is the killer feature — users don't want to browse 1,000 jobs. They want to know "what's new since yesterday."

  4. Pricing matters — at $1 per 1,000 jobs, the tool is accessible to individual job seekers, not just enterprises.

What's next:

- Adding more sources (Indeed, LinkedIn jobs)

- Better salary normalization

- Company analytics dashboard

Would love feedback on what other sources or features would be useful.

2025 CSE graduate here. I’ve been learning/building in AI/ML for a while, but still can’t land my first job. What am I missing?

Upvotes

Hi,

I’m a 2025 CSE graduate from India and I’ve been trying to get my first job in AI/ML for quite some time now.

I’ve been applying to AI/ML, Data Science, GenAI and entry-level engineering roles, but honestly, I’m getting very few responses. At this point I’m wondering if I’m doing something wrong.

I’ve spent a lot of time learning and building projects instead of just collecting certificates.

Some of the projects I’ve worked on:

  • AI-Powered Movie Recommendation System
  • YouTube Transcript RAG Assistant
  • AI Medical Report Summarizer
  • Chest X-ray Pneumonia Detection
  • Rice Leaf Disease Classification
  • Traffic Sign Detection & Classification
  • AI Research Paper Summarization Tool
  • House Price Prediction
  • Flight Fare Prediction
  • Earthquake Damage Prediction
  • Rainfall Prediction
  • Bank Credit Prediction

My main tech stack/skills are:

Python, SQL, C++
Scikit-learn, Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib
TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras
Machine Learning, Deep Learning, CNN, Transfer Learning
OpenCV, Computer Vision, Image Classification
NLP, Hugging Face Transformers, Text Summarization
LLMs, RAG, Prompt Engineering, LangChain, LangGraph
FAISS, Sentence Transformers, Embeddings, Semantic Search
AI Agents, Agentic Workflows, Tool Calling
FastAPI, Streamlit, REST APIs
Git, GitHub, Jupyter, Google Colab

I know I’m still a fresher and definitely don’t consider myself an expert in everything listed above.

I’ve been trying different approaches, but getting almost no interviews despite 700+ applications across platforms + cold outreach is really discouraging.

But I’m confused about what I should do next.

Hiring [HIRING] Junior AI Engineer | Brisbane or Remote Australia | AUD $70k to $110k

Upvotes

We’re a new startup operating a consulting company and a product company which are tightly interlinked. We build custom software and AI for businesses so they can build the future they want.

We’re looking for a junior/early-career AI Engineer to help us deliver to more clients and grow our product.

Location: Brisbane, Australia preferred. Remote Australia is considered for exceptional candidates. Salary: AUD $70k to $110k.

This is a hands-on production AI and automation role rather than a research role. You’ll be part software engineer, part forward-deployed. You’ll solve real problems as they arise and help decide what needs to be built.

You’ll:

  • Turn vague business problems into concrete software, automation and AI solutions
  • Build and ship full-stack features, integrations, automations and AI agents
  • Work with TypeScript, relational databases, APIs, webhooks, MCPs, email and other messy systems
  • Deploy what you build, fix issues, iterate from customer feedback and help customers adopt what you build

We’re looking for someone who has built full-stack apps with TypeScript, relational databases and AI, and has created automations before.

You don’t need ten years of experience or previous professional AI experience, but you do need engineering fundamentals, evidence you can build things, and the confidence to turn that into something people use.

AI coding tools are part of the workflow, but you still need to review, understand and take responsibility for the software you ship. Strong communication matters.

Please send your resume, a short intro and links to anything you’ve built to hiring@hitch42.com.

Hope this is allowed. Admins, please delete if not.

Work as an AI trainer

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

My partner has a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, excellent English, native Spanish, and has been researching AI in recent years.

We’re looking into worldwide remote AI-related opportunities, especially AI training, evaluation, ethics, and other non-programming roles.

She’s particularly interested in opportunities where her philosophical background could be useful..

but we’re also open to roles that aren’t directly related to philosophy, as long as they’re genuinely in the AI field.

For those with actual experience in the field:

• How realistic is it to find this kind of work

• Which companies or platforms are worth applying to?

• What skills or qualifications matter most?

• What are the typical pay, stability, and application processes like?

Any honest advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated,

Thank you! 🫶

22, took a 2 LPA AI Engineer job after leaving 4 LPA — did I make the right choice?

Upvotes

I’m 22. After 3 months of job hunting, I finally got an AI Engineer role at a small startup for 2 LPA.

I know the salary is quite low, especially since I previously had a 4 LPA tech role at a manufacturing company. But the problem was that the actual work wasn’t related to AI, software or the career path I wanted.

So I decided to leave and focus on finding a role that actually aligns with my career.

Now I’ve got this opportunity and I’m hoping it can be a real starting point for my AI career.

But honestly, I’m a little scared about my future salary growth. Since it’s a startup and I’m starting at just 2 LPA, I don’t want to get stuck at a low salary for years.

For people who started with a low package:

How did you scale your career and salary?

Should I prioritize skills and experience for the first 1–2 years and then switch, or should I start looking for better opportunities as soon as I gain enough experience?

Any genuine advice on how to build a strong AI career from this point would really help.

I know 2 LPA isn’t great, but I’m hoping this is the beginning of something better.

Hiring [Hiring] [Full Remote] Part-Time Vector Database Support Engineer for RAG and Semantic Search - contract, ~10 hrs/wk | $16-$28/hr

Upvotes

We build and operate an AI platform serving RAG, semantic search and recommendation workloads over a self-hosted open-source vector database cluster (Kubernetes, cloud-hosted, high request volume). We are hiring a senior support engineer for an ongoing part-time contract to own customer support and production troubleshooting for our vector search and retrieval infrastructure. You will work with ML engineers and platform teams on production systems that serve embeddings, ANN indexes (HNSW) and retrieval pipelines, and you will help customers keep their vector search healthy and fast.

What you will own

  • Triage and resolve customer issues across the vector search layer: search quality and recall, embedding ingestion health, index tuning, payload indexes, HNSW parameters, quantization, sharding and replication.
  • Troubleshoot production issues across ML infrastructure and cloud layers: Kubernetes (pods, Helm, autoscaling), AWS/GCP/Azure networking and storage, and vector search serving latency.
  • Build small internal tools in Python for support workflows and observability (Prometheus/Grafana/OpenTelemetry experience is a plus).
  • Write clear runbooks and translate hard retrieval problems into language ML engineers and non-technical customers can act on.
  • Join a shared on-call rotation with extra base pay for on-call weeks.

Hours and rate

  • Part-time workload: about 10 billable hours per week on average, scheduled inside your normal weekday window. This is a contractor role, not a full-time position.
  • Availability: weekday working hours should overlap PST (UTC-8) business hours for at least 6 hours per day for urgent issues. You are not billed for the full 6 hours; billable work averages about 10 hours per week.
  • Rate: $700/month to start, up to $1,200/month for exceptional experience, paid in USD on a fixed schedule via PayPal or Wise. Effective rate is about $16/hour starting and up to about $28/hour at the top rate.
  • $50-$100 bonus from the second month onward for consistent, reliable work.
  • No equity and no commission-only arrangement.

What we look for

  • Customer-facing support background or forward-deployed / solutions engineer (FDE) experience.
  • Hands-on vector database experience (Milvus, Weaviate, pgvector or Rust-based vector engines) plus working familiarity with RAG and semantic search systems. A short technical quiz on vector search fundamentals comes before we agree.
  • Professional Python (or a similar language) for scripting and tooling.
  • Production Kubernetes experience and comfort managing workloads.
  • Cloud experience (AWS, GCP or Azure).
  • Portfolio: GitHub/git history plus 1-2 writeups of production incidents you diagnosed and fixed.

How to apply

  • Apply by private message with your relevant experience, timezone and links to your samples. Comments are for public discussion.
  • Start your PM with your favourite animal and your timezone so we know you read the whole post.
  • We review every application that includes portfolio links and reply to shortlisted applicants within a few days.
  • We never ask applicants for payment or financial details.

Resume 2027 batch , should I start doing dsa🙂

Post image
Upvotes

I’m a B.E. student from 2027 batch and placements are coming up soon. Honestly, I don’t have much expectation from college placements, but obviously Im applying off campus wherever I can.

I’m mainly interested in AI/ML 🤖. I’ve done quite a few hackathons and have some decent projects. I’m fairly comfortable with Python and SQL too, but DSA is basically zero right now 😭 since I focused more on development.

Now I’m kinda confused 😵‍💫 — should I start DSA seriously or continue focusing on AI/dev + projects?

If DSA is important, how much is actually enough for placements? I don’t want to spend months doing DSA if I could be using that time to improve my AI/projects.

Attaching my resume too 📄. Would really appreciate some genuine advice on what I should improve/focus on.

Anyone who has already gone through placements, please share your experience 🙏
