First AR build help zion iwi 15

Post image

this is my first and only gun, I sold my shotgun, bought this for 850, acquired my HQL, so I am free to buy whatever gun I want now besides machine guns, of course. My intent is to go to the range, possibly hunt(i never have in my life) and self-defense. I picked the A.R. 15 because the cheap 556 and 223 ammo, how flat it shoots, accuracy, and its interchangeable parts. However I live in an apartment so the 5.56 will go through a lot and is lengthy. plus im not shooting that far anyways, so i thought since its mainly for self defense the suppressed .300BO would fit my intent better. if you guys were in my situation would you just buy a shorter barrel/suppressor to make this .300 BO. Or would you sell the gun i have now and buy a cheap ar-15 and arp .300 BO. I just wanted to go name and reliable brand for my first gun but the buyers remorse hit and i think the length/caliber just aren’t for me and my intent. I just think 2 is better then one if shit hits the fan i don’t need to switch barrels

md requires 1200ftlbs of muzzle energy. most 556 falls short, 300bo subs fall short.

edit: for deer

In addition to what county may be a straight walled only for deer

You need to register it as an SBR before you put on a shorter barrel upper.

This is important advice op, if you get a 300 bo barrel with a barrel shorter than 16 inches you have to file a form 1 with the ATF--and not assemble it until it's approved. You also (as of this post) have to get the lower engraved.

Also also you need to be sure the overall length is longer than 29 inches.

Welcome to NFA world.

Pretty much any round is going to punch through drywall and even studs. 300blk vs 5.56 isn’t going to make a difference. The best upgrade you can do is buy some ammo and train. I’d say eventually, get to a point where your rifle is built out how you like and then start venturing into nvgs and thermal

Machine guns are good to go in MD, the cost is the only prohibiting factor
