Question Want to try LineageOS on Galaxy S9+ (SM-965F).
Hi there,
Currently running stock Android 10 on my Galaxy S9+ (SM-965F), looking to put on a custom ROM as some apps I need no longer support Android 10, & came across LineageOS.
Seems the S9+ has been discontinued, was wondering what the latest Official LineageOS was & what Android OS version it was based on?
Are there any issues that you guys know of that may limit functionality?
My phone is only 4g, it seems to connect via VoLTE, which I think is needed here in Australia, do you know if the latest Official LineageOS supports VoLTE?
Does the latest LineageOS support call-recording? Android blocked it since Android 10
I notice on the LineageOS wiki it says "
- LineageOS builds for this device require an Android 10 version of the stock OS to be installed prior to following the installation guide"
Does this mean LineageOS just builds ontop of stock OS, or is it a fully separate custom ROM? I remember doing other ROMs in the past, the installation wiped everything, so Im not sure here.
Is there a version of Samsung SmartSwitch for Linux Mint to make a backup, or will I need to do the backup on a Windows PC first?
Does anyone have a link to the LineageOS image + Odin installers & how-tos'? I see on the LineageOS website, I'm reading through the "Install LineageOS on Samsung Galaxy S9+", but it's only mentioned some sort of installation via command-line, which is all new to me. I've just started not long ago with Linux Mint, & even installing custom roms get confusing at times.
Any assistance would be super,
Regards,

separate, the firmware requirements are for parts that isn't included in custom roms
but then volte's not working anyways

The last LineageOS version was 20.0. Official LineageOS builds for 20.0 are no longer available, but the LineageOS for microG project continues to make a publish builds, of both LineageOS for microG and 'vanilla' LineageOS (i.e no microG,for use with MindTheGapps). No links here, (because 'rules') but checkout the LineageOS for microG website for download links

OP is almost certainly going to want telephony that works.
That is not possible with LineageOS on Samsung devices in any locality that uses VoLTE exclusively.

I have an exynos version of s9+ Running LineageOs , installed it mainly to debloat and make resources free, volte seems to be working fine , but using this device only for hosting light weight stuff

Thanks Virtual. Is your LineageOS official or non-official? You say you're getting VoLTE. It's shows the volte icon in the corner? I mostly use my phone for calls/txt but the app in need to access needs Android higher than 10 :/.

As a user of S10e on exynos. No VoLTE as Samsung keeps the driver proprietary, without it you couldn't use data, sms, calls.
LineageOS is fully custom ROM which goes instead of your main ROM and it shipped with it's own recovery.
Not sure about back up options on linux for samsung devices.

No VoLTE, so the rest of the questions are strictly academic.
