Welcome to the Kearney Subreddit.

Upvotes

Welcome to the Kearney subreddit, now under new management. Our goal is to grow this community page by sharing helpful information and insights about Kearney and the surrounding communities.

Please feel free to start posting here. Let us know events that are happening. Things like local concerts or tournaments. UNK sports events. School activities. Anything that helps get the message out to the community.

Feel free to review businesses and restaurants. Share what new places are out there or what fun places others may not know exist.

Share fun and positive stories about the community in general and help others see what a great place Kearney really is.

Now for a few things we don’t want. No shaming people. This isn’t a place to complain or pile on about anything negative. No political agenda post. I don’t care which side you fall on nothing political. Nothing sexual or NSFW. Keep it appropriate. There are enough other places to go with that. All we ask is that you don’t come here to “stir the pot”. There are enough places to do that. Keep it drama free.

So, Welcome, and let’s have some fun.

Go Big Red it’s Game Day!

Upvotes

I’m not here to make predictions on the season. I just hope for the best each week.

We’re a football family and enjoy watching the games and cooking some good tailgate food.

What are your traditions for football weekends? Any good recipes to share with the group?

Feel free to shout out your teams and traditions. All food or drink recipes are welcome!

Go Huskers!
Go Lopers!

For those that remember Maxwells.

Upvotes

Maxwells was a bar located in the old Holiday/Ramada Inn. On the weekends they would have live bands and it was normally packed. Normally they had some decent drink specials. Fear of Flying always packed them in.

For those that experienced it, what do you miss? Do you have any favorite memories? Would you like to see a place like that again and would it work?

Most of my favorite memories are not appropriate to share. I do remember always making sure I was friends with the guys taking the cover charge at the doors. I rarely paid a cover to get in.

What’s going on around Kearney for the Labor Day weekend Sept 4-7?

Upvotes

Please post any local events that you know about for people to consider this weekend.

The State fair wraps up and has a couple of concerts. Husker football opens the season Saturday morning.

What else is happening that people might enjoy?

What kind of things do you do for fun around Kearney?

Upvotes

My kids always talk about how boring Kearney is. What do you do to fight the boredom?

My youngest would pick the Big Apple. Middle would pick one of the parks to walk around or fishing at Cottonmill. Oldest would probably pick Hams downtown especially if there’s a band.

Wife and I enjoy trying different places around town. Sampling food and drinks. Axe holes is fun if you’re out with a group. Birdies and brews is similar if you’re okay with golf.

So what do you all like to do or would recommend for people that are new or visiting to try?

I Cannot wait for the new board game cafe, Board and Bean, to open

Upvotes

I've been to the board game cafes in Omaha and Lincoln and they are so much fun. I love being able to try out new board games for cheap. I hope when they open that they have a community notice board or something so I could post a DnD sign up sheet or something like that.

What are your favorite places to eat in Kearney?

Upvotes

What are some top favorite places to eat? Fast food or fine dining. Bars count too.

We like a wide variety of places and have our favorite meals at each. Sometimes it’s more than just good food, great service makes all the difference it the world.

Respond with your favorites and maybe why you like them. We can build a list to pin for those new to the area, or just looking for something different.

Does anyone know why Dairy Queen is so busy at 8 PM?

Upvotes

Every night after work I drive past it and see a huge line. Is there like one business that closes at 8?

Comedian Dan Alten coming to Other Side this Sunday at 8 as part of my 23 night tour. I’ve opened for Kyle Kinane, Rory Scovel, Open Mike Eagle, Sarah Squirm from SNL, DJ Douggpound, and cool punk bands. I promise I’m funny and interesting and if you don’t enjoy the show you can spit on my car.

EAR Airport and Inclement Weather

Upvotes

Hey gang, My family and I are scheduled to fly in to EAR tomorrow via Denver (to visit family down in Harlan County). Does the airport deal with snow and ice well or do they just cancel flights at the first sign of it? Just trying to figure out if I'm going to need to plan on taking Amtrak from DEN to Holdrege....

Thanks.

Internet providers

Upvotes

Right now I have spectrum, which is good service but I went from like $45 a month to now $75 a month.

I was wondering who here has experience with frontier and how you like their service, which is my only other option for Internet right now.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Missing boxer Dog From Country Club Lane and 35th

Upvotes

My childhood dog is missing.

Mosely is almost 13 years old. She has a brown and white coat with lots of grey hair. She has tumors on her body and other medical issues. She has had many surgeries and is nearing the end of her life. She has declined lately and has become confused and disoriented. We love her and need to locate her as soon as possible. Please message me if you have seen her or know where she is at. We are very worried and don’t want her life to end this way. Thank you!

A neighbor said they saw an older couple (white), in a mid-size sedan, trying to take a dog on Saturday from their front yard - the dog belonged to the person next door to that neighbor. The very next night my dog went missing.

If anyone hears or sees anything, please DM me or contact KPD.
