Anecdotally I remember Candace certainly and Ben too, but Charlie Kirk did not seem even within that sphere the same level of celebrity.
I remember Milo and people like that from this time and like Ben Carson. When Charlie Kirk died was the first I really heard of him.

hating charlie before he got famous and then assassinated was crazy to me. I knew him since like november 2024, seeing him gradually make a name by ragebaiting collage students and gaining fame little by little and then seeing his assassination was crazy to me considering his peak of popularity before death and how obscure he was a year ago compared to his assassination date was actually insane to me despite hating his ass. For me it definetly felt like an inside job at one point.

Kirk was more behind the scenes. At that time Turning Point USA was already a big fundraising and think tank force. It catered to stupid people of course but they were a huge PAC already.

Yeah I remember the “Ben Shapiro DESTROYS social justice warrior” shit popping off on YouTube when I was still a university student, and I finished my masters in 2014, so he’d for sure been gaining traction in the early 2010s. In Kirk’s case, he’s a younger guy and would’ve only been around 19 or 20 during the first Trump campaign, so he was just getting started with gods college campus debate stuff

Turning point USA helped Trump get elected in 2016. Candance is washed up now compared to back then, same with Kirk. They use to be huge back then.

First I remember of BLM was as a hashtag when Trayvon Martin died. I don’t remember what year that was but Kendrick Lamar references his death on To Pimp a Butterfly which came out in 2015 (unfortunately, Kendrick was the biggest hypocrite of that year), so it’s been around since before 2018 for sure.

According to Google Trends, Candace Owen first spiked around the beginning of April 2018.
It's hard to get a reading in the Google Trends for Charlie Kirk because something big happened in September 2025 which makes it difficult to see the Google Trends line before that.
Looks like the photo is from around April 30, 2018.

I think the person was just late. Ye wasn’t “early” I’d heard of both of those rubes prior to Ye and their novelty already wore off for me by the time his late-ass caught on. During the 2016 presidential election campaign, Candace cropped up with a bunch of non-whites hoping to become influencer famous for being minorities who “left the democratic plantation”. There were so many of these losers making videos back then 2015/2016-17. When you’d visit their pages you’d clearly see their prior content consisted of random apolitical videos with minuscule views. But the “I’m ____ and I just left the Dem plantation” video has like 40k+ views. And suddenly they became a “minority and conservative” armchair political social commentary channel. They were such dorks. Now Candace and barely half a handful of others remain.
