Discussion Google Business Profile Suspended After Editing?
We manage profiles for local businesses in Thailand. Six suspensions in 8 months, all reinstated eventually, all avoidable. What each owner had done a few days before:
Added the service and city to the business name ("...Massage Sukhumvit") because a competitor did it
Changed the address to a co-working space to "look more central"
Switched category from a specific one to a broad one and back, twice in a week
Bulk-uploaded 40 photos in one go from a new phone
Added 8 service areas covering the whole country for a shop that serves one district
Set 24-hour opening for a place that closes at 10pm
None of these are "spam" in the owner's head. All of them look like spam to Google's system, especially when done right after a period of no activity.
What we do now before any edit: one change at a time, wait 3-4 days, keep the real name and real hours, and never touch the name field for keywords no matter what competitors do. Reinstatement took 2-6 weeks each time, and rankings didn't fully come back for another month after.
Finally, we got tired of catching these too late, so we built a small AI tool that scans a profile for the edits and patterns that tend to trigger suspensions and flags them before Google does. That's what I'll run for anyone who wants a check - happy to say what it is if asked.
Anyone got a suspension from something that seemed totally innocent? Drop the business + area and I'll run a risk check on it.

All of the items you mentioned would quickly be flagged by Google. I hope you were able to educate the business owners on proper procedures for managing the listings.

Yes, that’s the whole reason for the post — we did, that’s the “one change at a time, wait 3-4 days” routine.
Problem is the education always came after the first suspension.
Six different owners, six different edits, none of them thought it was spam. Do you see a pattern on which of those Google punishes hardest? In our case the name change took the longest to get reinstated.

I wouldn't wait 3-4 days; more like a week or two.
Also, #4 isn't usually a cause for suspension. And #6 isn't either, usually.
Just stay away from the 5 core elements, unless you have lots of proof in hand first. Don't touch listing title, address, phone, URL, or primary category, and don't do more than one at a time.

Thanks for the clarification. Our situation may actually be related to the URL change you mentioned.
We manage multiple legitimate dental clinic locations under the same business. Recently, we updated the website URL on our Google Business Profiles to point to our newly updated website.
Shortly after the URL changes, we started experiencing suspensions across the locations:
- One location was suspended and, after appealing, is now permanently ineligible for another appeal.
- A second location can still be appealed, but it gets re-flagged/suspended again after the appeal and is stuck in a loop.
- A third location has now also been suspended, even though we haven't made any recent changes to that profile.
We didn't change the business name, address, phone number, or primary category. The main change we made was updating the website URL, and the timing of the suspensions seems quite closely connected.
Could the website URL itself trigger a suspension if Google detects an issue with the linked website? And could that potentially explain why the third location was suspended even though we didn't make any changes to its profile?
Also, would reverting the website URL to the previous one potentially help, or would you recommend leaving everything untouched while we investigate?
Finally, for the location that is now permanently ineligible for another appeal, is there any other way to request a review or escalation?
We really want to avoid making further changes that could cause additional profiles to be suspended, so any advice on the safest way to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

Suspensions aren't always per listing. When one profile in an account gets actioned the others in that account can get pulled in with it, which is usually what's behind a location going down that nobody touched.
On the URL, it's less the change and more what's on the other end of it. If the new site points every location at the same page, or the address and phone on that page don't match what's on the profile, the check that runs after a core edit has nothing to verify against. Reverting won't lift anything already suspended, so I'd leave the URL where it is and get a real location page up with the matching name, address, phone and hours before you appeal the one that keeps looping.

Thank you for your response. Initially, we had the profiles linked to the main homepage. Later, after the GBP went down, we created separate location pages with accurate name, address, phone, hours, etc. and linked each profile to its own page, but they still got suspended.
The business name also didn’t exactly match the physical signage, so we’ve now fixed that too. Should the GBP business name exactly match what’s on the physical signage, or is it okay to include the location as well? I’ve also made sure the name is reflected in the page title.
Do you think that should be enough before we try appealing again, or is there anything else we should check first?

Just the real world name, no city and no service in it. The test is whether it matches the sign, the site and what customers actually call you, so if the sign says one thing that's the name even when every competitor has the town in theirs. Given you've said it didn't match the signage, that's a likelier cause than the URL was.
Before appealing again I'd spend the time on evidence rather than on the profile. Photos of the exterior signage with the name readable, the registration or licence in that exact name, and something at the address like a utility bill. An appeal with those attached goes very differently to one that just says it's fixed now.
And leave everything alone once the appeal is in.
