Do You Think that the Intrepid would've been better to release the Hurricane Inline 6 Rather than the Charger?
Imo I think that if the Hurricane Inline 6 was released on the Intrepid along with the Dodge Stealth replacing the challenger maybe the Hurricane would've been more appreciated. The EV tech should've been put into a Chrysler car rather than shoehorning it into the Charger.

Have you ever seen how long an inline 6 is? Why would anyone transverse mount one? Also the engine didn’t exist when the Intrepid came out so unless you’re suggesting dodge invents time travel at some point, well you’ve lost your mind either way I guess.

intrepids aren't transverse engine cars they're longitudinal FWD which is strange as all hell

I had one and it was an excellent car. The platform was engineered for FWD, RWD, and AWD. Maintenance was easy - particularly spark plugs.

Had one certain things were easier to service cause of it. If you look at Chrysler’s plan pre Daimler the LH platform was design to accommodate rear wheel drive. It never happened but the LX builds off the LH.

Your upgrade bit is stupid. This version just came out. And actually it has some pretty crazy upgrades already. They have a boost controller that can get you past hellcat performance for about 600 bucks. Also the new Charger is closer in overall dimensions to the 60s Charger and the old ones came in an inline 6 as an option.

u/Sms570x 20h ago
except these new chargers are still almost 6,000 pounds with a person driving them :(
•
u/__slamallama__ 20h ago
New charger hurricane is ~4800lbs so unless your driver is the star of my 600lb life AND you're doing a lot of rounding up they're not 6000lbs.
Also the old ones were a svelte 4500lbs so IDK what you're really getting at
•
u/Sms570x 20h ago
The 6,000 lb electric version scatpack, which is actually 6,000lb without a driver. And regardless of wieght, the old 2015 hellcat charger is 4,500 pounds and still faster than the new daytona charger i6 by a whole second. We can even compare the redeye charger if you want. Heck, even the 23 superbee charger is faster than the i6 and weighs the same

u/whiteyeti25 18h ago
Daytona is EV Sixpack is gas. On a prepped surface the old hellcat is quicker but on the street the Sixpack is quicker. Throttle House did a drag race between the red eye the new Sixpack Scatpack and the mustang dark horse. On a street surface quarter mile the Sixpack beat both.
•
u/__slamallama__ 17h ago
If you care about acceleration buy an EV. Combustion cars are irrelevant in straight line racing these days. The last combustion car winning drag races is the zr1x and it is still a hybrid and still being given a run for its money by 5 seat family sedans that cost less.
•
u/whiteyeti25 16h ago
That's such a stupid thing to say. EVs can only do a few 0 to 60 runs before it overheats. And they are only quick until the battery gets low. And none of us are drag racing. But I'm not going to buy an EV and try to stop light race a muscle that's just dumb. And a corvette is now a cheap supercar so who cares.

Your entire comment talked about quicker times, and which one is faster. They're all still slower than a Hyundai SUV.
Plenty of EVs are also fixing the thermal issues. Porsche, BMW, Hyundai, and lots more are building cars that can do multiple hot laps of tracks like the nurburgring without derating.
I'm just saying, buy what you like but if you're gonna talk about "quick times" they are all objectively slow compared to a cayenne EV or lucid sapphire. It's not even really a debate. A lucid air sapphire is a sub 9 second quarter mile on street tires. It will walk any product dodge has ever produced for public sale.
•
u/whiteyeti25 16h ago
And you brought up EVs. The conversation wasn't talking about how much faster your mom's vacuum is compared to my mom's vacuum. Go ahead and buy a lucid air I don't need a car that costs more than my house.
•
u/__slamallama__ 15h ago
The whole thread was about how heavy the EV scatpack was dude. If you want a cheap EV that's still faster than a hellcat the ioniq 5n is right there, running low 11s all day long.
Call em vacuums all you want, if you're talking about quick they're quicker.
•
u/whiteyeti25 15h ago
Op was literally talking about the I6. And my first comment says nothing about I6. Only you and the the 6000 lb guy were talking about EV.

Ummm…so…the Charger Daytona has no NASCAR history? Chargers were raced in NASCAR in the ‘60s and ‘70s, long before the Intrepid was anything more than a name of a WWII Essex class aircraft carrier.

What about idk a stealth a car known for being a "tuner car" so an inline 6 tt AWD is not far from the og v6 tt awd

I probably wouldn’t have gone with Intrepid, but something like the Magnum or the Matador would have worked just fine.
•
u/Curbsidecannabis 20h ago
Yeah bringing back a dead model that no one cares about would have been a great idea
•
u/skielur1 19h ago
Glad they put it in the Charger. I personally love mine. I never would have bought one if it was a Hemi. I will take a tune ready TT everytime.
•
u/whiteyeti25 16h ago
The 500 dollar boost controller to bring it up to hellcat horsepower is nice too.
•
u/Nightmare_Ives 21h ago
The Intrepid doesn't have the most glamerous nameplate - quite a few of them had major drivetrain issues. I had the first gen and loved it; put over 200k miles on it and got rid of it in 2012. But I don't think it would be good for a revival.

The current Charger was supposed to be released before Covid (2018-2019?) with two variations of the I6 and the Hellcat V8. they were also experimenting with EVs behind the scenes (i.e. The Dilemma movie).
If the car released on time with the Hellcat ready to go as the flagship, I don't think it would have flopped so hard. a lot of the last gen Chargers and Challengers were sold with V6s.
The name isn't the problem, and I don't think the Intrepid nameplate would of helped. The "Last Call" BS, a lack of resources and vision from FCA/Stellantis, and releasing the models out of order hurt this car.
•
u/Osama_Bin_Drankin 19h ago
I agree. I think launching the EV version first was a mistake. They should have launched the I6 and V8 models first, with at least one lower powered base model (around 330 - 350 HP) that could be priced similar to the old Pentastar V6.
After releasing the gas versions, then they could have released the Scatpack EV model. That would have helped consolidate all the EV sales into a single platform.

“Police models were available”
Yeah? And? Police models Intrepids were widely known for being massive pieces of shit. There’s a reason you don’t see any of them anymore.
•
u/TheDaedricImpaler 19h ago
The problem wasn't the name, it's the platform. Pulling out the battery + electric motors and jamming the Hurricane I6 into this platform was just a weird transition.
The EV for sure should've been called something else, because nobody would associate Charger with EV. I don't think Intrepid would've been right, but something other than Charger would've been preferable.
Now they just need to put the Hurricane I6 into a smaller form platform that doesn't weigh almost 5k lbs. If they put it in something smaller and brought back the Dart name for it, I bet it would do pretty well.

u/dragonitexy 17h ago
I think what Dodge was back in those days isn't completely incompatible with what cars are now. I don't think the Intrepid would be my first choice, but a new Neon or Stealth with batteries &/or high-boost engines would be pretty cool.

I know that the Drag Pak exists as a race car, I'm just mainly focusing on NASCAR since dodge seems like they want to return.
•
u/JackAuduin 21h ago
You're getting so much hate for this but I've totally thought the same thing. Everybody can argue that the chargers had v6s but everybody knows that the V8 charger was the main event.
I've said many times that I think the avenger or the intrepid would have been a much better platform to release the hurricanes. They could have got people used to the engine before replacing their flagship motor.
•
u/Gary-Weathers 21h ago
Honestly thanks for saying this, even if the charger had engines such as the Slant 6 everyone remembers it for it's V8s. The Hurricane has great potential but to put it on a nameplate where the V8s were the main halo made it feel as if no one gave it a chance

u/D-Smitty Challenger SRT Supercharged 21h ago
Why would they bring back that uninspired nameplate? Also, tons of Chargers, both old and new, came equipped with 6-cylinder engines in the base trims.
