This game shaped me into who I want to be in the future. Someone who helps a community.
But itās really not as simple as that. When I was first introduced to Destiny 1 back when there was still a demo out to explore the cosmodrome, I loved it. I loved seeing other players, I loved being in that moment of finding a rare gun, when I got the game, I loved being on Venus and waiting for a raid team to load in so I can help them do the entrance to the vault (even if my uncommon fusion rifle was not that helpful) Eventually my parents bought me the full game, then some friends. We were too scared to do a raid, but some college students at the time helped me and my old best friend to complete Crotas end for the first time ever. Then I stupidly dismantled black hammerā¦.
Regardless, several years later Destiny 2 releases for free! I thought why the hell not. I became addicted again, and really felt like I was in middle school again. I found a sweet community too! This was around Covid, so everyone was active during this time.
āDestiny 2 Sanctuaryā. A community meant for guardians who are deaf, hard of hearing, mute, socially anxious, all the sorts to where they wonāt be accepted into a normal destiny raid.
With covid happening and being an Asian in a predominantly white Christian town (not that Christianās are terrible, but my experience in that town with most of them were not pleasant) Iāve gotten a ton of looks for sure. But this community didnāt care, they didnāt see me as a covid threat.
Eventually I learned how to do all the raids available, all the leviathan raids, GOS, Last Wish, sotp, such fun and amazing raids. I eventually became a āSherpaā there. That role meant so much to me.
Being able to help a community of deaf, mute, socially anxious people, taught me so much about my self. Is that I love helping people.
I graduated with a Degree in psychology 4 months ago, while I graduated with a concentration in IO psychology, itās my goal to make sure people in the workplace feel comfortable, safe, heard, and cared for.
This game taught me what I want to do in the future. And I am saddened it was announced a while back itāll stop getting updates. But I thought Iād share my experience with D2S, and hope someone else on this subreddit may recognize the name.
Not only did this game really hammer in kindness into my mind and personality, but it really showed me what altruism is, and how so many within the Destiny community exhibited that same behavior.
So in a way, this is a thank you to those who were in the Destiny 2 Sanctuary discord server. And a thank you to all the wonderful players who took it upon themselves to teach someone a raid instead of saying āKWTDā or kicking someone else out if they donāt have 10+ raid clears.
Thank you to all Destiny players, and thank you bungie.
