What's a Xûr?
Xûr, Agent of the Nine, is a strange vendor who appears weekly in the Tower. Xûr sells Exotic equipment and only takes Strange Coins in exchange for them.
TL;DR: He's the Santa Claus of Destiny and every weekend is Christmas. Sometimes he brings you what you want, sometimes he brings you coal. Mostly it's coal.
When does Xûr visit?

Martyr's Retribution is only available from Xur now and that's a good roll. It works exceptionally well for stasis builds because of its origin trait.

Also (unless they patched this, haven't checked in a while) you can fire it FULL AUTO when on Hunter using smoke bomb melees! That origin trait is one of the very few 0 cooldown reload perks, so with the right build you can just be painting the whole world with fire using Marty's.
Is it super good? Nah. But it's fun as heck in low tier activities!

It's genuinely depressing how many of the best looking non raid guns are just filled with bad perks.
the chosen cabal themed guns with land tank, all the hive or eris themed ones, those cool vex looking ones etc.

He has not and I grilled him over it. He got his sleeper simulant catalyst within 10mins of using the gun so he has some weird idea the truth catalyst will just pop up like that one did and the orders aren’t necessary. There’s only so many times I’m going to tell him to check his seasonal hub.

It can, it will just take a long time on low rng. The exotic orders seem to be on a knockout.
Tell him to just play the game until he’s got 2 or 3 purple orders needing filled. The. Grab a shuro chi checkpoint (or loot cave, etc) and clear those purple orders in 5 minutes. Should get an exotic order. Reroll that to not be a “kills with weapons” one and complete it in 5 more minutes. Get a missing “world drop” catalyst.

Desperate for the Wavesplitter catalyst. I've run about 100 Vanguard Ops, plus some Crucible and Gambit, all with Wavesplitter equipped (I know it doesn't help RNG but just let me believe). Four exotic orders too and it's still not dropped.

This seems so funny in comparison to how much of this sub has played for so long, but I'm a Brand New Light (just started playing in August!) and I've been trying to get the Sunshot catalyst to drop since my first day, since it was my first exotic
Went to my partner (who's been in the game for years, I started for them) and went XÛR HAS THE CATY, PRAISE THE NINE

He sold it 2 maybe 3 weeks ago, and I tried to stock up as best I could with whatever rolls were decent. It seems it's 50/50 but unfortunately it's just been bad luck the last couple weeks.

The Nine have spoken and the message is six 75 stat exotics with distributions designed to torment vault managers. Pyrogale and Secants are easy grabs if you lack better rolls, and the Auto-Loading Vorpal wave frame is the actual sleeper here. Hawkmoon with Surplus feels like the ceremonial lump of coal.
