First time deck question

Planning out my deck and just have a really quick question. I’d it better to put my footers so the post will line up with the edge of the deck or have the footers inset a foot or two so they are hidden and have the deck overhang? Is this just personal preference?

you have more wiggle room for accuracy with the "overhang" (cantilever with drop beam) and the joist span is that much shorter, therefore stiffer.
