First deck

Taking this Labor Day to show my progress on my first full deck. I’ve done a resurface before but never anything to this scale. 11 months since breaking ground. Did not progress much over winter time. Couple spots to touch up yet.

I did have a buddy with a skid steer with 24” auger for the holes and some extra hands flipping the roof post up. Everything else was myself

8-10” thick 24” wide footer to 12” tube.

Looks amazing! The only thing that caught my attention was the knee bracing. I’m working on that right now on my deck. I think I’m going to lag bolt into the bottom of the beam and side of the post

I am planning my first project an I'm curious about a couple of things.

What prompted you to leave a gap to make the screen porch seperate from the house? Did this count as an "out building or accessory building" since you left the gap? How was it navigating the permits for this build?

With the windows on the house I didn’t want to get into messing with the existing header to support the roof. Found it easier to bump it out. My area allows homeowners to pull their own permits for pretty much anything.

2x10 joist 12” spacing split on center beam which is a 3 ply 2x12 with all joints landing on post.

Damn right, what’s your 2x10s spanning each way? Did you fasten the joists together at their passing and only hurricane tie one side?

Ties on each joist as well as nailed together. As well as blocking at beams and mid spans. The joist are 12’ spanning little underneath that.

And it feels plenty solid? I’m gonna be spanning 13’ each way with 2x10 12” oc with mine
