Huey turned four today and had quite the day. Started off with his new squeaky toys in the morning and then we went over to his favorite park. Ended the day with a nice steak (no...I didn't give him the whole thing).
I can't believe how fast the last four years have gone but I'm incredibly lucky to have this little guy in my life.

For context, we rescued our Dachshund Maple back in February, sheās 8 months old now. We rescued our Chiweenie/Terrier mix Roo a month ago, sheās around 3 months old.
We debated a second dog for a while but eventually decided that Maple needed someone to play with and keep her company when she is alone. It has been a ton of work, with Maple having a genetic issue requiring us to wait to spay her and Roo coming home with a raging UTI. Moments like the ones pictured remind us why we rescued a second dog!

How can I help my dachshund bark less at people and ignore other dogs while on leash?
Hi everyone! I have a young dachshund, and Iām working on preparing her for more hiking and trail trips. We live in Florida and often travel to visit different hiking trails, so Iād really like her to become more comfortable and well-behaved around people and other dogs.
Right now, she mainly barks at dogs rather than people. She also gets excited and wants to go toward dogs in their faces while weāre walking on leash. I would love to teach her to stay focused on me, ignore people and dogs passing by, and bark less without making walks stressful for her.
What training methods have worked for your dachshunds? Any tips for teaching her to be calmer around dogs & ppl and preparing her for busier trails and hiking environments would be appreciated!
Any tips for building her confidence and preparing her for busier trails and hiking environments would be appreciated!

My roommate watches my dog when I'm at work. My roommate told me my dog somehow knows when it's getting close to when I'm going to be home because she'll start going to the door and start whining like an hour before I get home.
