👋Welcome to r/ColonyCats - START HERE!

Upvotes

Hey everyone! Welcome to the r/ColonyCats subreddit! This is a place for past, present, and prospective cat caretakers to learn more about how to better care for outdoor colonies of cats, kittens, and the communities they live in.

The term “colony cats” describes a group of outdoor cats living together. These cats may be feral, stray, or otherwise unsocialized to humans.

Please read through our community guidelines before posting or commenting, and again…welcome to the community! We're excited to have you join us!

WHAT TO POST:

Here, caretakers can feel free to ask for and offer advice, share TNR strategies, provide helpful tips and ideas for colony management, and share photos of their colony cats.

After reading the rules, you may post anything that you think the community would find interesting, helpful, or inspiring. Don’t hesitate to comment on posts, and share your thoughts, advice, or questions relevant to the topic of discussion.

THE CATS YOU CARE FOR MAY BE FERAL, BUT YOU SHOULD NOT BE:

We're all about being friendly, constructive, inclusive, and kind. Let's build a space where everyone feels comfortable sharing and connecting.

The vast majority of cat caretakers have pure intentions, and are trying their best to provide the best care possible for their colonies. Constructive criticism is ok (some people may need some guidance and it’s ok to provide that), but please refrain from rude, unhelpful comments, harsh judgments, shaming, and personal attacks.

Thanks for being part of this community and thank you for all you do to help the cats you care for. 🩶🐾🩵🐈‍⬛🫶🖤🐈💙

Help for rescued kittens & 50+ community cats 🙏❤️Amazon wishlist 🙏

I’m asking for a little help for the kittens in my care. food, litter, cleaning supplies, and other essentials while I continue caring for them.
I also feed 50+ community cats daily and I’m currently in need of wet food.
Right now, I’m also struggling with an emergency situation with Leo. 💔 Leo has been hospitalized for the past 4 days and is very sick. The unexpected veterinary expenses have become overwhelming, and I’m desperately trying to get him the care he needs and give him a chance to get better.
As a solo rescuer, keeping up with the needs of so many cats and kittens is already a lot, and this emergency with Leo has made things even harder.
If anyone is able to help with an item from the kittens’ wishlist, even something small, it would mean so much. Every donation helps me continue caring for the kittens, the 50+ community cats, and Leo while he fights to get better. ❤️
Thank you to everyone who has supported my rescue, Leo, Lucky, and all of these little ones. I truly appreciate every bit of help, especially right now. 🐾🙏

HELP ME FIGHT FOR LEO🙏

Before anything else, I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me, donated, shared my posts, checked on Leo and Lucky, sent messages, and continued to stand by me and the cats. Your kindness means more to me than I can put into words. 🙏❤️

Today I went to visit Leo today, and I am completely heartbroken seeing him like this. He is only 7 months old, and he has been fighting for so long.

I rescued Leo from a dumpster when he was only 8 weeks old. Since the day I found him, I have been fighting for him and doing everything I possibly can to give him a chance at a healthy life. Sadly, Leo has never truly been healthy.

Today, his fever is still coming and going and will not go away. He has almost no appetite, his diarrhea continues, and we are still waiting for his lab results to hopefully give the doctors some answers. We don’t know what is wrong yet, and that is the hardest part, just sitting here waiting and hoping the doctors can figure it out and save him.

I would trade anything in the world to see Leo healthy. I would give anything to take this suffering away from him.

I can’t even sleep. My body has been shaking constantly, and I feel completely hopeless and helpless just waiting for the next update from the doctors. I keep asking myself what else I can do for him.

His first emergency bill was $861.

His treatment bill at the hospital has already reached $3,000, and I know this fight is not over. These expenses are becoming overwhelming, and I desperately need help.

🙏 PLEASE, I am begging our community to help me fight for Leo. If you can donate even a small amount, it truly matters. Every dollar will help me cover Leo’s hospitalization, testing, treatment, medications, and his growing veterinary bills.

If you cannot donate, please share Leo’s story. A share can reach someone who can help.

AND A HAPPY UPDATE FOR LUCKY 🐾

While my heart is breaking for Leo, I am also incredibly grateful that Lucky is finally safe. ❤️

Lucky was an older, very feral cat I rescued from the streets near a dumpster. He was struggling to survive outside, and because of his age, health issues, and being so feral, finding him a safe place was extremely difficult. He is FIV and FeLV positive and also had an eye condition that required surgery.

Before Lucky could leave for the sanctuary, he desperately needed a bath. He was covered in pee and poop, and honestly, I didn’t want to put him through a bath after everything he had already been through. But it was necessary, and there simply wasn’t time to wait.

I called many hospitals hoping someone could help clean him, but they all refused. I was running out of options and time. Thankfully, I found a wonderful and very kind lady who runs a grooming business, and she agreed to help Lucky. ❤️

Lucky completely surprised me. 🥺 He was so calm during his bath and while she carefully cleaned him.

I just wanted him to arrive at his new home clean, comfortable, and feeling a little better after everything he had been through. ❤️

For Lucky’s trip to the sanctuary, I also had to rent a car. My own car is not working properly, and I was worried that I could risk getting stranded somewhere in the middle of the road with Lucky. I didn’t want to take that chance. I just wanted to make sure we were safe and that I could get Lucky to the sanctuary without something going wrong along the way.

After everything Lucky had been through, he finally made it to a sanctuary where he can live safely and have other cats around him. He was scared when he arrived and hid under a pink bench while the other cats came over to smell him. Then they simply gave him space, almost like they understood that he needed time. 🥺❤️

For the first time, Lucky doesn’t have to live on the streets, searching for food and trying to survive. His suffering outside is over.

But getting Lucky to safety also came with expenses…his veterinary care, his bath and cleaning, his transport, the rental car, and his sanctuary intake fee. I am now trying to cover those expenses while also facing Leo’s rapidly growing medical bills.

And my rescue work doesn’t stop.

Every single day I care for community cats. I feed them, provide fresh water, care for sick and injured cats, trap cats for TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return), take cats to the veterinarian when they need medical attention, rescue abandoned cats and kittens, and provide whatever help I can to the animals who have nobody else.

I do this on my own, and right now I am trying to keep fighting for Leo while continuing to care for all the cats who depend on me every single day.

I am exhausted. I am scared. But I cannot stop fighting for them.

Please help me save Leo.
I need help to cover Leo’s growing medical bills and Lucky’s expenses, including his veterinary care, bath, transport, rental car, and sanctuary expenses.
I need help to continue feeding and caring for the community cats who depend on me.

I feed the stray cat at my home Purepet brand food and water. It isn't a great brand because it doesn't provide a complete, balanced meal, so if anyone would like to help order better food for them, here is my Amazon wish list

Help! Bleeding Cat [Vero Beach, FL]

Hey everyone,

I need some urgent advice and help. Five days ago, a stray cat showed up at my house. Thanks to the amazing people here who donated food and an outdoor shelter, I’ve been able to feed her, give her topical flea medication, and use a flea comb on her daily to clear out a massive infestation.

Tonight, I checked on her and found a horrifying amount of watery blood all over the top of her new outdoor shelter and pooled on the concrete ground right around it.

She has a severe, raw, hairless patch of skin on her hindquarters from scratching at the fleas. It looks like it has officially ruptured or she has severely re-injured herself while resting on the shelter, and she is in bad shape. I need to get her to a vet as soon as possible, but I can't afford vet bills out of pocket. Because she is a community stray that I've been trying to save, I am desperate for financial resources.

Does anyone know of local 24/7 emergency rooms that have a "Good Samaritan" fund or a stray fund that will be able to help her? I have also reached out to a clinic in my county who said they accept payment to her account if anyone is able to help.

I am doing everything I can, but she needs professional veterinary help fast. Any advice on navigating emergency costsfor a stray right now would mean the world. Thank you all so much!

*Updated to add her amazon wishlist. The virtual veterinarian said that a bland diet & probiotics are very important until I can get her into a physical vet. I have added the recommended items to this list. Any help is extremely appreciated!

♡Repost♡ - Unexpectedly behind on TNR bill, could REALLY use any help on *Cat Food* or items on Amazon or Walmart Wishlist so we can chip away what we can for the bill....Please and thank you for EVERYTHING you do for the Floofaloofs♡Illinois♡ (info in comments and pictures)

\*I just need to say, Kim is the best thing to happen to me for the cats. Over 30 plus rescue places and 2 years, no one ever called back, or tried to work with me, I was doing all myself. Kim found out from a conversation at work I am a cat lady, and she was signed up with Triple R, and took me on. I will do everything I can for her, she has the biggest heart for cats. I hope one day I can be half the cat lady she is♡\*

I have an Amazon Wishlist with food items, we have been spending so much money on TNR (We do it through Triple R Pets, and bring them to Naws Mokena) and helping with food makes sure the money is there to get them fixed.

I also have a Walmart Wishlist too for those who (rightfully so) do not want to support Amazon. I truly only use Amazon for the cats.

My email is \[[CynLMason@gmail.com](mailto:CynLMason@gmail.com)\](mailto:[CynLMason@gmail.com](mailto:CynLMason@gmail.com)) if you'd like to help with a Chewy Giftcard ♡

There is a lady I work with (Vicky), she has a cat colony, that we have been working on fixing. Kim brought a few of the cats with eye issues to Four Stray Paws for treatment and adoption a few months ago I posted. We have been helping her with food, I found out she still owes Kim for TNR, about 900 dollars. 900 DOLLARS...allegedly, her son stole her money (I will gIve her this. He is in and out of jail), but most of this was from BEFORE I started helping Kim, so we are going to start chipping away at the bill so Kim can keep TNRing under her account (she is Kim Grimes in the text picture I put)...as upset as I am, this isn't Kim's fault, we do it for the floofaloofs and try to have the best intentions. We are going to start chipping away at it.

Why does food help? Because with having to purchase less food, that means the extra money I can make goes straight to that bill so we can catch up. I help with food so that those with the cats can pay the 50 for TNR. We do this ourselves, we don't work with a rescue. We do this out of lo pve for the floofaloofs, and try to rehome who we can on our own.

Helping us with food would mean the WORLD to me right now, it means what I make can go towards the Triple R bill and help get Kim caught up. It would mean we can keep doing TNR for those innocent colony cats and try to home those who don't want to be back outside. It ALL goes for the floofaloofs. Every extra dollar I come across, straight for them.

Sorry to seem dramatic, this was just a surprise to me. I am putting part of the text conversation about it (needless to say I was shocked!). I know we will eventually get it down, we try to do as many side gigs as we can, but you buying us food will help us immensely and will help us to keep TNRing cats for others who need it.

Thank you for all you do, not just for our floofaloofs, but for Floofaloofkind. You are the good in the world. Thank you for making the world a better place.

(I want to reiterate, help with food means we can chip away at the bill, and you know it all goes for the floofers...thank you ♡)

Help for rescued kittens and 50+ community cats 🙏

I’m asking for a little help for the kittens in my care. They are still recovering and need food, litter, cleaning supplies, and other essentials while I continue caring for them.
I also feed 50+ community cats daily and I’m in need of wet food.
As a solo rescuer, keeping up with the needs of so many cats and kittens can become overwhelming, especially with the unexpected veterinary expenses I’m facing right now with Leo.
If anyone is able to help with an item from the kittens’ wishlist, even something small, it would mean so much. Every donation directly helps me continue caring for them. ❤️
Thank you to everyone who has supported my rescue and these little ones. I truly appreciate every bit of help. 🐾🙏

People drop them. 💔 I learned TNR so I could help, and now I fix every cat that comes onto my property. Most of them have chosen to stay, and somehow they’ve become my family. 🐾❤️

Our Catcun Colony wishlist is in desperate need of help right now. We’re running low on food and Churus, and we also need shelters, medications, and everyday supplies to keep everyone safe, fed, and cared for.

You may notice Panacur on our list. A 5-day course of fenbendazole (Panacur) can also be used to treat Giardia in cats when properly dosed. Yes, the product on our list is labeled for goats, but fenbendazole is also used in cats — the important part is using the proper feline dose and guidance. My rescue friend is the one who told me about it.

Every bag of food, every Churu, every shelter, and every little supply makes a difference. ❤️

We may not be a big rescue, but we are committed to every cat who finds their way here.

Thank you for helping us keep our forgotten babies fed, safe, and loved. 🐱❤️

Check out this Gift List I just created. https://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/2IE7YMVDOFHUI?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_ggr-subnav-share_9HK0MT9ENAXAG3S8PX5P&language=en-US

Found this sweet little one limping in front of one of our colonies area during this continuous rain, but we are in a really tough position right now—our vet debt is still unpaid, and we genuinely cannot afford to take on another rescue or medical case on our own.

We are reaching out to the community in hopes of a miracle. Is there a generous sponsor willing to cover the full medical treatment for this baby? Initial cost is roughly $40-$100 depending on what tests they will do since I don’t know yet if the limping was caused by a hit and run car or someone hit the leg of the kitty. 🥹

If you can step in as a dedicated sponsor—or even share this post to help us find one—please DM us right away.

I usually avoid rescue groups since i prefer that money go to other people that need it more then me, and i was having much success fundraising outside of them, but for once in months, donations to drying up and slowing to a crawl, and i can't cover vet bills.

I recently got food via rescuecats, which i figured would be enough to hold me over for more then long enough to start getting donations again, but apparently not, this month is just gping to be a slow one i guess :,)

Anyways, just trying to make back a bit to cover costs so i dont end up in the red, i want to say that i probably wont need much, but last time i said that, internet and algorithm decided to punch me in the face ans prove me wrong.
